Now give me a bar of Galaxy or Lindt milk anyday but I am going to try the 85% stuff for when times are really desparate. So far managed not to need any chocolate.

OOh I bought the Tesco 85% and Lindt 85% last night and I hated them both.... my 2 fave chocs are galaxy and milk Lindt so I think this was just too bitter for me....it's what I imagine eating coffee out the jar would be .....but anyhoooo you gotta give it a go Shelbythin.....me, I've resigned myself to no choc from now on and surprisingly I'm ok with that! Oh Lordy.....I'm one of the converted!!! :A

I used to loathe dark chocolate - my favourites were Galaxy and Lindt too. But now I'm hooked on the dark stuff. So my advice is don't buy it or you too may become addicted! :D

Hi, the Atkins book says that after 48 hrs all carbs are used up but an article i read yesterday said its 16 hrs, so not too sure but after 48hrs I found my hunger pangs gone so hang in there, when i first did it i would fry a chicken breast in butter or have some more bacon or pork chop or fish etc every time i was hungry until ketosis kicked in and i lost a stone in a month so was obviously ok for me.
Now, i rarely get hungry and often forget to eat (unheard of for me) i'm a greedy cow with a big appetite but thats prob carbs for you!!

Hi mazzers - I expect I was pretty carbed up in the days/weeks/months before I started, and my system will have been used to drawing on these resources to fuel my body. 48 hours I can live with, so I should be ok tomorrow. I suppose it's my metabolism adapting to the new 'diet'. I felt a little light headed earlier, so I ate half the cheese-counter ... erm ... I mean fridge contents. ;) I've got a nice big sirloin steak for dinner! :p

Thanks everyone for the diabetes related help, I've been a head-in-the-sand diabetic for a year now :o. We talk about lightbulb moments with regards to our debts but for me my lightbulb moment was realising I've been eating low fat and slow acting carbs for many years and yet the pounds continue to pile on and the dreaded D day arrived so something isn't working .

So I've been having salmon omlettes for breckie, ham and fruit for lunch and the meat and veg without the pasta or potatoes for supper, think I need to expand my horizons :rotfl:.

Hi finnigan - if you're in the 14 day induction period (Atkins) I don't think you should be eating fruit as it's not on the list of allowable foods. Sorry if you're a long termer - I'm only 2 days in and trying to take it all in, so I get the best results I can.

    Hi There

I am new to this forum. I plan to make many changes in my life this year and it includes revisiting a slender body acheved years ago on the the Atkins diets. I have a 3 yr old son and I am a full time working single mum so I know it's going to be hard this time but I am determined and I have the right 'head on' now if you know what I mean ( I haven't been emotionally ready to address my body image and take control of my bad relationship with food)

I am 6ft,and 120kg my target is 70kg and I hope to do it in a year or less.
I have lost 6lbs in the last 3 days yay!! :T on low carbs put I am a bit weak (yet determined) now so I feel I need to power up on milestones and quick wins. in the last free days I have mainly had raw cashew nuts, omlettes and tuna salads and loads and loads of black tea. questions I have are
    • Red wine? is it good or bad as a glass a night is my weakness though if bad will scrap
    • what typically is the carb gram range to get in Ketosis
    • what typically is the carb gram range to stay in Ketosis
    • are cashew nuts a big no no?
    • any helpul tips for those ketosis stage wavering days?
    • How long is realistic and/or healthy to stay in ketosis
    • any appetite suppression technics or pills available (that WORK) ;)
I understand being in ketosis to be the typical stage 1 of Atkins.

    thanks for your help.

    Hi All,

I suppose I'm correct in thinking that we all originally ended up at MSE for some sort of financial advice, and then discovered all the other benefits the site has to offer. Well, that's what happened to me!

What I'm finding with the Atkins diet is it's more expensive than my 'old' diet. All the meat, fish and eggs I need to keep me going coupled with my decision to buy ethically farmed items and those that aren't pumped full of cr*p (preservatives, water, sugar, ...), is proving a bit of a hit on the budget. My veggies and salads costs are still much the same.

Does anyone else find this, or is it just because it's the induction period?

    Cheers!

Good advice, thanks hun, I'm not following Atkins, simply low carbing at the mo, short term goal is to stop the 7+ blood sugar I get now and again and then I might start a proper plan to encourage weight loss. I seem to have a heck of a lot to deal with within the family right now so when things settle a little I can concentrate on myself better.

I got my bs down from 19 so this is the last little bit to go

Sorry, I hit post before I meant to, to say good luck to you :)
