Thank you so much Mercy for listing the recipies and for noting it in your siggy, you are an :A, I've been looking through the thread for ideas as I know that low carb is the only way I loose weight.

I am diabetic and I did a little 'experiment' over three days, as controlled as it could be :o. I checked my blood sugar on waking (after fasting all night) and then ate 30g carbs and no sugar breakfast. I then checked my blood sugar at 1 hr and 2 hrs after eating.
I did the same the next day with a meal of 30g sugar and found my blood sugar post eating rose by the same level as the day before.
The third day I ate a carb/sugar free meal and my blood sugar did not rise and stayed at my fasting level.
While I appreciate essential vits and mins might be missed by cutting out the carbs I'm sure a good multivit can combat most of that issue and the forthcomming lower weight will be better for my health than keeping my current weight with a balanced diet.

    Thanks again Mercy :T

My OH was so shell-shocked to be diagnosed a few months ago, I don't think he's quite come round yet. He is following every letter of the doctor/nurse's advice currently, and in a way I don't blame him.

But I'm so hoping he will see the light and toss the government line out of touch. He is so supportive of me and understands the concept, but he is doing what he is told. His BG is finally normal (after being told that he would be on insulin by New Year) but he is taking 6 tablets a day. I would so like to see him on less medication and more low carb.

He doesn't really need to lose any weight, but I feel this WOE would do wonders for his BG (and reduce that medication).

Been very good girl today, so back on track.:A

Had burger and cheese in an oopsie lunchtime and altho it was ok and made a good roll substitute, I must admit i'm not that keen.
Also, got some finest 85% cooking chocolate in Tesco for £1.49 for 150g in the baking aisle, why 'cooking' at 85% i dont know. The squares are rather large though but if you've got a big gob like me then it shouldn't be a problem:rotfl:
Will let you know what its like.
Off for three days now so am going to cook some of the nice recipes as i usually cook for my boys but have the same old things myself.
Was surprised to find my ketostik slightly pink today after my lapse yesterday, i wonder if it means i am not as carb sensitive as i first thought.
It could be the wine tho as i last time i did Atkins after wine i would get a pink stik but lose no weight, like a false reading or something.

hc my dh has done the old style by the book way for years. He hardley ate before and continued to gain weight since buying the Dr B's book he has learned that insulin will cause him to gain weight no matter what. He his so much healthier on this and very well stabilised he is type 1 so will always need to inject but if your hubby got onto this he would maybe reverse his diabeties. Could you get him the book and i reckon it would give him the confidence to try it i know it has worked for my dh and i have harped on for years you have all the food end sorted out its just the step he needs to take but if he is educated he may be able to take it.:D

mazzers, I can't quite see the attraction of oopsies either. Chocolate, however, is a different matter. Very silly of Tesco to call high-quality choc 'cooking chocolate'. That used to be the dreadful stuff you covered cakes with (I'm showing my age here).

With regard to wine and Ketostix, I wonder if you are so dehydrated from naughty wine consumption that any trace of ketones is amplified. So you see pink, but that is only because your body is so lacking in fluid that pretty much anything will show up. Or perhaps, that alcohol does not affect ketone production but that, unfortunately, as alcohol is burnt before carbs you may think you are in ketosis, but your body has some work to do before it starts burning fat (ie. that booze). I have had this problem too, however it's very very rare that I drink wine.

Stacey, in a way he is pooing himself, after 45 years of feeling invincible. Incredible work ethic, physically very fit and strong, boundless energy (until the undiagnosed diabetes took him almost to his knees - and I'm not exaggerating). If buying him a book would do the trick, then I would do that. But at this early stage (4 months) he is going by the 'rules'. However, I hope so much that he will experiment - in the LC direction - as time goes on. :)

I know, it was next to all the cheapo cooking choc too, but it must be good quality if its 85% was cheaper than the other 85%s though.

The pink stiks did lull me into thinking i could drink the odd few wines but it halted weight loss i realised later so i had to abstain. bit of a mystery that one.
I dont drink so much now so its not such a problem.
