  • Hello all - been feeling a bit down and lacking in self-confidence, and want to give myself a kick start by losing about 1.5 stone - this has mostly accumulated through bad diet and comfort eating.

I've heard of so many successes through Atkins and wondered if you could give some easy hints and tips to get started. I understand that it's a low carb diet, but how would you recommend I get started? Should I cut out all bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc and stick to meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, salad and fruit? Or is that too drastic a way to start?

    Thanks loads.
It is important that you get the book and follow it to the letter!
Briefly, Induction is minimum of 2 weeks and max 20g carbs per day. If you want to do this I will scan the pages of allowable foods for you and email them to you. A lot of things you think may be allowed are not!
I reread my book very often.
No fruit no nuts no sauces from jars or packets,no seeds, no cereals rice pasta or bread or anything containing any of the above.
    That still leaves lots!
Im on in induction-doing my 3rd week of it at the mo! It isnt hard to do.
If you want some menu ideas there on lots on this thread but a lot of people are doing "other" lowcarb diets which wouldnt really comply with Atkins.
If you follow ideas-make sure the person is doing Atkins-for a first timer it will be very helpful.
Ive got the Atkins New Diet Revolution.

Yep, same advice as the others really. You really need the book so you can understand the principals. It's not quite as simple as cutting out carbs, you need to understand what carbs etc. I bought my book (Atkins New Diet Revolution) off amazon from one of the many sellers. It was a used one in excellent condition. The book was 1p (yes, ONE pence) and postage was £2.75. It arrived within a couple of days and it really is one of those books that you constantly pick up and re-read.
If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

    My way is Atkins;)

u can buy them at lowcarbmegastore.. my understanding is that if u make them they tend to be a weird colour but then again who cares what colour they are lolx
When you know better you do better
  • They wouldnt last long enough to stay a weird colour!
Just reading recipes: If you make Oopsies you could then make meringues with the whites!
Hey mazzers-are you getting cramps? I did last time so this time Im taking potassium magenesium and calcium-as the Atkins book suggests and Im now painfree! Magic.

Hi, this is a question for Ted.
I know you cant advise me what supplements to take but i am on my first week of Atkins and the supplements seem rather confusing and i'm not taking any so, if you were me starting on this diet what would you be taking.
I hope its ok to ask this
    Thanks anyway
