I'm definitely going to urge OH to grow leeks this year. And spinach and asparagus - the more expensive things rather than potatoes etc.

I've just got my favouritest Gap denim jacket on (easily) after it sitting in the wardrobe for about 3 years, unwearable because I was too fat. I washed it a couple of months ago in anticipation and now I can wear it again. :j

Hope you feel better today, Badger Lady. Big respect to you for sticking to it. :T

    Morning lovelies :hello:

Been feelin' a bit iffy the last couple of days - think there's some kind of tummy bug going around :( gilly's not feeling too great either and some colleagues at work have had it too... so eating has been a bit sporadic - you'd think that would mean the weight would finally go down a bit but oh no of course not! Anyhoo. Thanks goodness it's friday. That was one slog of a week.

Very interested in this container veg gardening discussion - I'm starting one this year! :j And I can't wait to get started. Lol I think gilly's worried he's gonna lose me to the garden!:D It's really my first attempt at veg growing and I'm worried that I don't try to do too much too soon IYKWIM - don't want to be too ambitious. So I'm thinking I might start with some herbs, kale or spinach, dwarf green beans, salad onions maybe and some cut and come again lettuce?

Have done some googling on the subject and there seems to be divided opinion on whether or not you need to start seedlings off inside? Does anyone have any thoughts on this? And I too would like to know where the best place is to buy seeds.

I fancy having a go at that flax porridge myself and better get practising my pancakes:D

Right better get on with some work.

Have a fab day everyone

    Much love,
    Sazzy xxxxxxx

Certainly very easy, cut and come again so you can keep one sowing going for some time if you space the plants out and just pick the outside leaves regularly. You may also like to grow Swiss Chard in the same way. Perhaps the Chard is slightly better for overwintering.
    and asparagus
this is another matter and it depends on your soil and how frosty your garden gets.Asparagus growing We have tried twice to establish an Asparagus bed and failed dismally both times. I'm not sure if it's the frost or the soil but I can't get it to thrive.

    Hiya

I just got this set through the post
    http://www.stourvalleyoffers.com/mxd006-svo
Cheap seed packs further down too.

The only ones I won't use are carrots as I don't have the space.

Seeds turn up everywhere, wilkos, lidl, aldi, asda, or try j parkers and thompson and morgan online.

For some things I prefer to buy small ready started plants from garden centres. If you don't need many or have little room it takes the guesswork out somewhat. You can see the seeds have worked but you don't get 300 to plant out :)

I always get spring onions and grow 6 bunches in a trough. Enough for me to pick as and when. Leeks appear like this too, as do cauli n cabbage.

Going to have toms and chillis on front bedroom windowsill too!

    happy gardening!

Had great luck at asda last night, Young's salmon fillets, 2x200g in packet - 84p :j So I got two :)

Now I need a nice creamy sauce. Will have the fish with asparagus/ green beans / broccoli.

Can I cook the fish from frozen or will it need to defrost first?
