There are many conditions in Western industrialised societies today that were unheard of, or at least very rare, just a century ago. The same conditions are still unheard of in primitive peoples who do not have the 'benefits' of our knowledge. There is a very good reason for this: They eat what Nature intended; we don't. The diseases caused by our incorrect and unnatural diets are those featured on these pages.

    Dietary causes:

    Fasting, low-fat diet, missing breakfast
Low-fat diet is major cause of gallstones.

Do read the whole link. It explains why sassybooboos experience although the cause of the gallstones was not Atkins. If you eat a low-fat diet and never eat fat again, then you won't get the pain, even though the stones are there. The doctor who says that the gallstones are caused by high-fat is actually saying that the symptoms are caused by the fat.

If someone suffers from gallstones, a low-fat diet 'prevents' the symptoms, so doctors often suggest such a diet. But it makes the cause of the symptoms (gallstones) worse.

THE FAT THAT CAN MAKE YOU THIN

I was reading this acrticle recently and decided to try the idea below today to see if it worked.

women were given a drink which contained either MCT (from coconut oil) or LCT oil. Thirty minutes later they were offered lunch in which they could choose and eat as much as they wanted. The women who had the MCT oil before the meal ate less food, and as the authors of the study stated, "significantly decreased caloric intake in the lunch."

What I did was to add a teaspoon of Coconut Oil to my pots of green tea (if you don't like green tea then a herb/fruit teabag type drink would work just as well). It does give the green tea a distinct coconut flavour but it quite tasty.

It certainly appears to act as an appetite suppressor in much the same way the 6 fish oil capsules or 3 portions of oily fish a week also makes one feel fuller both when you've eaten and a couple of hours later.

Although I'm not actually trying to lose any more weight I'll see what happens over the next few days. I make 3 pots of tea through the day and that will mean an extra 120 calories daily (1 tsp in each pot) It will be interesting to see if adding the coconut oil to my regular drink actually makes it easier to eat less or if the extra calories in the oil actually increases my weight.

Ted thanks for the link about coconut oil, always enjoy the articles you find for us to read. I have an underactive thyroid condition which makes it hard but not impossible to lose weight. On some sites I go on about thyroid a low carb diet is recomended like the Mary Shoman site author of the Thyroid Diet book. I have read Coconut oil is good for thyroid function as well. I looked at it in H&B health food store and put it back because of the price. We dont have Indian wholesale stores near us here which is where I presume you would get it, so it looks like I will have to go back to H&B.

    Hi,

I have only just started yesterday, and so far it ok.

    Yesterday i had,

    Cheese omellette (B)
    Chicken (L)
Steak & lettuce, few toms and 7 mushrooms (D)

Is the above ok? Also im sure i read i can have sugar free jelly?

But should i compleatly cut the tea out of my diet, and if i do, is green tea or any other fruit tea ok?

Also can i make my own colesaw with cabbage (red & White), onion & mayo with a bit of grated cheese?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions, this thread has help me so much already.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T START A DIET LIKE THIS WITHOUT READING ALL ABOUT IT FIRST. YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE DIET WORKS.

Your food yesterday did not include enough non-protein like salads and vegetables. You should be on a 2 week induction which (would not allow you sugar free jelly or huge quantities of tea or onions).

Which diet plan are you intending to follow? There are several mentioned on this thread.

I have been reading bundles about low carb diets. I am following atkins from what i read. I must admit it didnt contain enough salad, but i wasnt in the mood for salad.

There was a link on this thread at the begining that i followed and said something about sugar free jelly, had no carbs?? and that a 1/4 onion is quite low in carbs - i thought a big huge batch of colesaw - with no carrotts would be good to go with my lunch or dinner - just cabbage red & white - minimal onion, mayo and a bit of red lescester grated in. - Is this a huge no no then??

So far i have only had two cups of tea with no sugar or milk which i think is quite good as i used to be a red bull adict as well as 5 cups of coffee a day.

As i said i am new to this but have read up on atkins as i have heard a few horror stories. I will carry on reading.

as tinkerbelle says u should read the book, it explains why and how things work and what u should be eating

if u are doing atkins induction then u can have 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of more salad or veg from the allowable list... no jelly for first 2 weeks

yes u can make coleslaw yrself but do not use too much onion as its fairly high in carbs, better to use spring onions or leeks in recipes than onion.....u can have decaff tea or coffee with cream or fruit and green teas, dont use milk tho

these answers are on the basis u are doing aktins induction

oops jus seen yr further reply, have veg if u dont want salad, u have to keep your salad and veg up to get all yr nutrients and fibre in.

not saying this is u but lots of people think atkins is jus eating meat and dairy so thats why we keep saying eat yr veg over and over lol

s/free jelly in theory doesnt have carbs but the point of induction is to rid yrself of cravings and if u have sweet things that wont happen so best avoid for the first couple weeks

coleslaw is fine but bear in mind what i said about onions in p revious post

welll done on the no milk and sugar
