  • Another translation of a Swedish Newspaper article.
Fat Doctor: You can lose 2 kilograms per week
Take the easiest route, with meat, butter and cream and you will lose around two kilograms a week, says the Doctor Annika Dahlqvist.

"Have you have banned meat and cream to get rid of obesity?"
It isn't necessary. Those extra Kilos disappear more easily when you eat fat - but only if you skip carbohydrates.

    - "The best way to do that is to increase the fat. That way you get sufficient energy", said Annika Dahlqvist.

While this is controversial the facts are that the Low- carbohydrate diet does not increase blood sugar. This means that you do not increase insulin, which in turn stores fat and blocks fat burning.

The body starts to burn fat instead of sugar, according to the doctor and health bloggers.

    Her advice is controversial.
The majority of medical professionals believe that we should avoid saturated fat - found in meat and butter.
They argue that saturated fat increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

But Dr Annika Dahlqvist, in turn, criticizes their use of cholesterol-lowering medicines.

    - "The curious can test the diet itself",says the doctor who last week released a new recipe book to supporters.

Start by eating more natural fat and then gradually reduce the carbohydrates.

    - You may feel transition problems. That is because you are not accustomed to burning fat instead of sugar.

    - But do not give up. After a few days or even weeks, your weight will go down

  • I'm sure you will take note of what Dr D says
A low carbohydrate diet is perfect for people with type 2 diabetes, because blood sugar is stabilised and variations limited.

Please note that if you are on medication for your diabetes the change should be made gradually, in order to avoid low blood sugar, checking blood sugar levels and reducing medication accordingly. It is recommended that you do this in consultation with your doctor or nurse.

It may therefore be a good idea to introduce COCONUT oil first so you get your body accustomed to burning fat BEFORE you start reducing carbohydrate intake so that it is better prepared for the lower levels of lack of gllucose and also if you are Intending doing Atkins it may be better to skip the induction period and go in at the ongoing weight loss stage.

    Ted thanks for that. :j

My hubby was looking for co!!!! milk a while back and we dont have any in our local tescos. ill maybe get it off the internet.

We have started the 14 day induction already so far his blood sugars are very good for not having any insulin. He checks very regularly ie every 1 hour and more if blood sugars are unstable. Just taken first insulin today 10 units and not the usual 38 also missing his fast actign one which is usually 36 on a good day and 60 on a bad day. So ill let you know how he gets on.

We will take it sensibly dont worry ocd about testing his blood sugars anyway. :T

Apologies Ted if you have already posted this - haven't got time to check - but just seen an interview with Dr D available to download on a podcast here. In case that's of interest to anyone. Can't investigate it now, coz i'm at work, but will do so later when I'm home.

Coconut oil does tend to be a bit pricey over the internet.
I ended up buying a 10KG container for £75 It's virgin, organic so as good as anything else and it tastes nice too.

I put the bulk container in the airing cupboard overnight and in the morning I fill up a few jars. It works out about £3.75 for a 500g pot.
It's a lot cheaper than most health food shops who charge Around £10 for a smaller amount.

If you have an Asian Quarter near you they have coconut oil much cheaper, not organic virgin but it's what they use in curries etc for normal cooking. I bought a stack when I was down in Reading last year. Usually between £1,50~£2,00 a pot. Lucky I kept the pots because I'm now refilling them, as needed, with the Coconoil.

It does sprink a bit when you use it for frying so I have had to invest in a splatter guard lid for the frying pan but that's solved that problem.

If you look at the date of that blog January 28, 2008 you will see that it around that time last year, I decided I'd give her diet a go. One rather sad point. You see in the photo Annika celebrating her victory over those who had her suspended but out of all the doctors in Sweden only 2 actually congratulated her on her victory.
If you are a health professional and you challenge consensus medical opinion then it's a very lonely road, it takes a very brave health professional to do that.

I never thought I'd lose all that weight so easily, and now exactly one year later I'm still under my target weight of 11st 6 lbs and I eat as much as I want and the only food that I eat now that I didn't before is that coconut oil.

Nearly done a week on South Beach now, will be getting weighed tomorrow.
Benefits noticed so far - several. I feel a bit slimmer. Look better - my face is less bloated and for some reason the dark circles under my eyes are less noticeable??
Feeling TONS better, energy levels are more balanced. Oh, and no cravings :D
I did have a couple of 'wobbly' days, day 3 & 4 I felt blah, tired, and headache-y.

I got the IPD book and recipe book from the library. I made the salmon and feta bake thingy last night, did it with smoked mackerel because it was a lot cheaper. OMG it was gorgeous but too rich even for me! I'm really looking forward to trying more of the recipes. I find the book very inspirational. I identify with Neris, her food history is more like mine than India's.
  • Hiya all, man, you guys like to talk! Didn't check in for a day and have just had to read back 6 pages! :rotfl:

    Menu for yesterday;
    B- 3 bacon & s.eggs
    L- Prawn mayo salad. plum
D- Fish in parsley sauce, peas.
snacks- 4 tangerines, cheese, grapefruit, apple.

HC- Sorry to hear that, pet. Although my bf kept his job, the company (softwear) is still gonna go down if things remain as they are so he's gonna be looking elsewhere (research- it's safer). It's rubbish everywhere!

Daisy- I use soya milk in my porridge and add apple, cinnamon (good for balancing blood sugar) or you could use mixed spice/ginger and I stick flaxseed i there too.

Sweet- I'm doing same as you, I think. But am seriously gonna cut back the nanas to 2 per wk. Know they were bad but not THAT bad! Thanks sue. If I get bunged up it's usually; not drinking enough fluids. Try a mug of hot water with lemon in morn (but coffee works the same in getting things moving), not moving about enough. Def being sedentry affects bowl motility in my experience, or not having enough roughage, which you clearly are.

Ted- do you have any fruit at all in your Dr D diet? Maybe I'm having too much but it's sooo convenient and I need something to put my cream on!:D
Perhaps I will cut back if it hampers things, though on Paleo you can eat unlimited amounts.

    Shykins- glad you're getting better.
