    Good morning everyone :hello:

    Hi sweetserendipity and welcome:)

Aliasojo - didn't have time to weigh this morning, was in too much of a rush to get to work. Probably wouldn't have been good news anyway:rolleyes:

HH62 - I'm with Pink - low carbing is just a far healthier way of eating in general. I would never go back to my old eating patterns now. Weight loss is an added bonus.

B - a very rushed sausage and flax bread
L - salad with cold beef and cheese
D - not sure yet maybe roast chicken and celeriac champ

Have a good day everyone  And HC - I really envy you looking at villas in Greece - it's one of my favourite parts of the world!

    Much love,
    Sazzy xxxxxxxx

What made you decide to do LC, as opposed to say, WW or low fat? And what do you like about LC'ing?

I decided last year that I was going to lose weight - my target was to be UK size 12 by October 10th 2008, and was set on my birthday 9th February.

I've always been a fairly healthy eater - vegan for the majority of my adult life (and strict veggie throughout), love salads, lentils, and never really a sweet tooth. So I started out just eating homemade soups and smoothies - a fruit smoothie for breakfast, green salad (no extras) for lunch, and an avocado / spinach soup thing for supper - no food after 5pm. Any hunger pangs were dealt with by a swift walk round the block, and I started running the 8 mile round trip to work.

This obviously had an instant effect on my weight - it started dropping off and felt amazing! Although it wasn't much fun as a diet... so I started adding bits of food, tofu or veggie sausages here and there, maybe even some porridge... and I stopped running due to all the rain...

So my weightloss slowed and I felt a need to kick-start it again. I signed up for karate lessons and went tee-total, also started drinking green tea. My weightloss slowly and gradually continued, but it wasn't fast enough. Plus I kept forgetting to show up to Karate and I missed the booze!

Around August, I found this thread having been told to "do low carb" by other weird strangers, and did a lot more research. I've never followed a particular diet, but I started trying to add more protein - initially I was on a soya craze, with tofu three times a day and soya milk in between. The weight started to drop off again!

Finally, I looked for more diverse ways to gain protein - I started using Hemp powder, changed my soya milk for oat or quinoa milk, and introduced more adouki beans. I even started eating little bits of goat and sheep cheese. I was also very interested in the nutritional content of eggs, so I rescued some ex-battery hens and learned how to eat two a day! I think the eggs have been the prime reason that I'm so often complemented on my skin.

Well, I hit my target and have maintained the diet quite strictly, but with the occasional "polite" lapse . But it's really been less about weightloss, more about holding onto my figure - I couldn't tell you why lo-carbing isn't as effective on me, I can only assume my metabolism works differently due to my unusual (and very low fat) lifestyle prior to lo-carbing

I started low carbing because I felt sluggish and experimentation showed a probable wheat intolerance. Apart from cake deprivation I do well on this way of eating. Recently the recipes posted on here mean cake deprivation is a thing of the past so looking forward to slimline success and getting back into all that expensive fetish gear. (hahahaha!)

I have done the lot over the last few years. Weight Watchers, Scottish Slimmers, simple calorie counting, Slimfast and whatever that other one was called where you were only allowed on it if an advisor 'interviewed' you first...name escapes me for the moment. I also had Doc prescibed pills etc.

Most of them were useless but I did have some success with Scottish Slimmers. I was ALWAYS hungry and still felt kinda tired and lethargic though.

I tried Atkins 3 (I think) years back and I was surprised how alert I felt. (After the first couple of weeks on induction that is.) I also noticed a huge improvement in my PMT, I didnt get irritable and as grumpy as I had previously. I lost 3 stone before I fell off the wagon when we went on holiday and then never went back to it.

Since then I havent cared enough to want to diet again tbh, I got a bit depressed and the only thing that made me happy was food but something has clicked into place again and I want to look after myself more now. Low carbing isn't for everyone but it seems to suit me well. I am more able to stick to Atkins than any other diet I've ever done, the hunger pangs are much less than with other diets and can easily be dealt with by eating a bit of chicken or tin of tuna etc.

Like others, I have no urge to eat high carby stuff now. (And I used to eat 2 packets of plain crisps for breakkie, chips for lunch and loads of new potatoes and buter at dinner :o ). Amongst other things :rotfl: .

I also clean my house more when I'm low carbing. :D I definitely have more energy.

    Anyway HH, welcome aboard.

Aurora...I think you're right. A body can only worry about so much at any one time, no point in giving yourself more to think about right now. :) See you soon.

Sweetserendipity...hiya and welcome. No you dont have to say how much....but I bet it's not as much as me. ;) :rotfl:

Same here - now I've got over the initial 'feeling yakky' stage I def have more energy and the house hasn't been tidier - I've been making full meals everynight after work and feel bright eyed and bushy tailed:D

Did various bits of low carb cooking/baking over the weekend - my favourite by far was the chocolate cake you nuke in the microwave - can't find the original post but thanks whoever posted it - it's absolutely gorgeous !!!

Thanks so much for all the replies so far. I've been going nuts on carbs for the past few weeks, so when I do start my diet, Phase 1 will be tough. Reading all the responses just helps to motivate me a lot more!

badgerlady - I think it's wonderful that you rescued the battery hens! I won't eat any eggs or chicken unless they're free range. Of course that doesn't help my tight budget but that's an area I won't compromise on.

Just for general info, the plan I'll be doing is South Beach (written by a heart surgeon - I think Dr Atkins was too?). It has three phases. Phase 1 is the toughest and is aimed at getting rid of cravings, rebalancing blood sugar etc. You do it for 14 days. No sugar is allowed, no fruit, and no pasta, bread, rice, potatoes etc. These things are re-introduced slowly in P2. But they are still quite limited and if they cause cravings or energy dips, you stop eating them.
The main difference between it and Atkins, AFAIK, is that you are allowed, to eat things like lentils, chick peas, kidney beans etc even in Phase 1.This does help with those, erm, bathroom issues !!

    Thanks again everyone.
