Low Carb Diet (atkins)

Thanks HC, I found your recipe:beer: Its no wonder I didn't find it when I searched this thread before, I was spelleing moussaka wrong:rolleyes:Definitely agree that low-carbing leads to appetite suppression (see below!). But part of me still wonders if it's much more to do with calories than any scientific explanation of this type of diet. However I can't see that the weight I've lost can be put down to calories alone.
Still, the experts can't agree, so we're certainly not going to get the bottom of it here! And it clearly works, whatever the reason, so I shall carry on.
Now, moussaka. This is the original recipe.
Serves 2- 500g lamb mince
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons tomato puree
- 100ml water
- 1 large aubergine
- olive or groundnut oil
- 3 eggs
- 300ml double cream
- 200g feta cheese
- Preheat oven to 180C/gas 4
- Fry lamb mince, breaking up lumps. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion and garlic. Fry till onion has softened.
- Add oregano, cinnamon, tomato puree and water. Bring to a simmer, cover and cook for 20 mins over a low heat.
- Slice aubergine, brush with oil and grill, fry or griddle softened (but not mushy and golden.
- Stir meat. If it looks too liquid, simmer without a lid for 5 mins.
- Beat eggs and cream, stir in crumbled feta.
- Layer aubergine over meat. Pour feta custard on top.
- Bake for 45 mins, or until top is golden brown.
- 250-300g lamb
- ¼- ½ an onion
- 1 clove garlic
- ½ teaspoon oregano
- ¼- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon tomato puree
- 50ml water (I used half red wine, half water)
- ½ an aubergine
- olive oil
- 1 egg
- 100-150ml double cream
- 100g feta
Anyway, it was very nice (although a bit too oregano-y and cinnamony for me). I shall zap the leftovers in the microwave for my lunch (hope it won't be too dry now).
Can you tell that my work is rather tedious this morning? Think I'll play Solitaire in a minute. If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.
My way is Atkins0 -
I now use 2/3 of the topping recipe; I replace water with red wine - don't bother about measuring - just a good slosh; I add less onion; and I add freshly grated nutmeg.
And one portion is a quarter of the '2 portion' recipe, for me anyway.

Morning all!
Back to work, I find weekdays a bit easier as there is more routine and I have to be more organised so I am.
B - 2 sausages plus 1 for morning break
L - turkey and veg curry. this week featuring cabbage, mushies, brocolli and leeks with turkey thigh.
D - chicken and leek with cheese sauce
After last weeks success I feel more under pressure to perform this week
Hope all are well

Who's all weighing in this morning?
My first week is up and I'm delighted (and embarrassed 'cos we all know the fatter you are the more you lose at first) to say I've lost 9lbs. Yay!
(And I've had nuts, as I didn't realise you weren't allowed them on induction and 2 cups of tea with milk and splenda each morning . The tea that is...not the nuts.)
Hope you all have a good day today and the scales are kind to you.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Cheer up pink....it WILL get better. And as for Florida, I suspect you will look positively svelte over there. There are all shapes and sizes floating about International Drive......and most of them are large, lol.

Anyone know of a villa sleeping 6 in July? I'm searching the Internet but there is too much to choose from, and lots beyond budget.
I can personally recommend this one: http://www.agel.biz/ Gets up to 40 degrees in peak summer, your own pool, and it's priced in pounds so no exchange rate issuesMortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
