I've been reading Rose Elliott over Christmas, and there's a recipe in there for easy low-carb tomato ketchup. If anyone's interested, let me know and I'll post it here.

I'd be grateful if you would. :D I've been out today on the hunt for some low carb tom sauce but came home empty handed.

    avstart....well done!

I was a 'shakester' too pre low carb days. Doc told me my blood sugar levels were normally so artificially high (because of what I ate and the amounts I ate) that as soon as they dropped even slightly, I was feeling the effects of it.

As you know this is my first week of Atkins and I no longer have that but I have to say I do feel a bit 'vague' and 'spacey' from time to time. I was the same the last time I was on Atkins too so I'm not concerned. It only lasted for the first 2 weeks if I remember right.

Hope everyone has had a good day so far.

well another thing with lowcarb is that it balances out your blood sugars which explains why u dont get all shaky etc when hungry (thats why its good for diabetics)

well i hit the shops for first time today lol forgotten how to shop wandered around being very vague tho to be honest thats my mood today... have a confession tho <sigh> they had a box of atkins bars on the oopsie counter so i bought them and had one with my coffee, very sorry girls i shall take any punishment thrown at me

if u took a whole little gem and made them at work it wouldnt wilt cos u havent broke it off the stem, cos lettuce are good to and that bit larger

avstar brilliant news on the loss its so liberating isnt it to be eating and still losing

saz i agree about those pics of sweeney didnt they say she had gone up bust to a 38g or something yeah right!!!!!

saw part of paul mckenna before but got a bit fed up wth the over enthusiastic american audience so turned it off... i am sure it can work but then anything can if u put yr mind to it

Hi guys, I'm new to this and was thinking about going on a similar eating plan (don't wanna think of it as a diet-I'm doomed to failure if I do!), is it the new Atkins you're all doin? Was gonna look into doin the Paleo Diet (or loosely following it anyway) which is also about low or no carbs and more protein, certain fruit and veg. Heard good things so dunno if anyone else has tried it? The thing that put me off with Atkins was all the artery clogging cream, butter, cheese etc. Is it still like that?
Also was wondering if you feel as lousey on it initially, which is what I've heard or is it best to ease yourself in gently and cut down the carbs? After all, seems it's the equivalent of coming off cigarettes for some, apparently!

Hi pillypilla and welcome :hello: The folk here are doing a variety of low carb plans, which include Pig to Twig and Dr Dahlqvist's plan, as well as Atkins. The science behind low-carbing indicates that it is carbohydrates and not fat which is deleterious to health. It really is worth while picking a plan and familiarising yourself with it and the theory behind why low-carbing works.

The initial effects of cutting down on carbs are shortlived and vary from one person to another. It's just while the brain adjusts from burning glucose to burning fats for fuel and your body weens itself off carbs.

Please feel free to ask anything and good luck!:)

hi pilly personally i am on atkins and the 'new' atkins isnt much different other than pushing the expensive lowcarb bars that nutritionals etc sells

yes u can feel crap on day 3/4 but thats usually all the toxins leaving your body.. i have heard of the paleo which again is another lowcarb plan, if u dont want to eat cream, cheese etc (shame cos thats one of the things we love about lowcarb) then dont but please bear in mind theres more artery clogging from transfats then there is from REAL fats.

    Hiya!

There's a few plans being followed here and the general concensus is that you should pick one, read the book if there is one and stick to that. I'm doing Dr Dahlqvists which doesn't have an induction phase and where there's no carb counting. will try to find link in a minute.

The main thing you will have to get your head round is that natural fat is not bad for you. :D

You can't low carb without increasing fat in your diet, it will make you ill.

Back in a mo with the link ;)

But, OMG, my new invention is AMAZING.

    Fruity mousse

Dissolve 1 packet sugar free jelly, any flavour, in 1/3 pint boiling water. Make up to 1/2 pint with cold water. Pop into the fridge to cool sightly.

When cooled, top up with 1/2 pint double cream, and whisk for a good 10 minutes with an electric hand whisk.

Pop into the fridge for an hour.

    OMG, creamy, tangy, fruity mousse.

    :)

Tink......does the mixture kinda look a bit like scambled eggs at one point....and are you supposed to whisk until all the liquid is thicker.

My whisk attachment snapped so I've just tried to whisk it with a beater attachment thing but I did it at an angle so it would incorporate more air.....it doesn't look right though. I gave up after ages but there was still liquid left that wasn't thick.

Doesn't really matter mind you as I'm gonna eat it anyway. Even if I have to do it with a straw. :D

Thanks for the advice everyone. Yeah, it's pretty hard to re-educate yourself and literally break the habit of a lifetime. I'm good at avoiding trans fats but the rubbishy carbs have taken hold at present (I even have a banana cake in the oven as I type!) so even tho I go to the gym, I'm burning only carbs rather than fat (and my skin could be a lot better too!) I blame the cold, dark time of year, of course! LOL.
I've sent off for the Paleo Diet book so will read it and see, also I saw a book called Good Cals Bad Cals so might use that to re-educate my sugar-junkie brain! Also a decent Low - carb cook book will be needed I think.
Glad I popped on here as think I'm gonna be needing some moral support and tips from you all! Cheers and speak soon x
  • B: 2 slices of nut bread
    L: mushroom/cheese omelette
Will have chicken stir fry for Dinner with strawbs and cream.

Now then, this is day 4 and I'm still getting headaches and felt VERY strange this morning briefly (sort of faint).

I'm also physically exhausted. Is this right?

I should mention that my dad died on Tuesday, which complicates things.
    de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar ;)
