Happy New Year, everyone!
Like Shykins, I haven't been receiving notifications either. I haven't been checking the thread over the holiday, so I've just read through the last few pages of posts.
Welcome to the new contributors, and good luck!
Re: Diet Coke - I know it's just a chemical cocktail but it's yummy and I drank it all through, and it didn't seem to stall my weight loss in any way, so you need to make up your own mind. It doesn't seem to have encouraged my sweet tooth either - I don't have any sugar cravings to speak of. The sweetest thing I have is strawberries (with a little Splenda) and cream, or SF jelly once a week or so. However, I certainly drink much less DC now - evenings only, and even then I have some water as well.
OH is NOT going on to insulin. I can't tell you how relieved we are. The additional evening tablet he was prescribed just before Christmas seems to have worked a miracle, and his BG is now down to 6 or 7 most of the time.
I've been pretty good food-wise over the holiday period. I had a little of everything at Christmas lunch, and the odd mouthful here and there at other times, but generally speaking I've stuck to it. Rivers of wine and champagne though, I must admit. That's stopping from today.I'll weigh on Monday, but I've definitely maintained at the very least, and I think I've lost a pound or two over the last fortnight. Ill-deserved, but very nice! I was worried about what medium I'd use to transfer vast quantities of cheese and pate to my eager mouth, but found that rounds of cucumber worked brilliantly and were my saving grace!
I had so many compliments at get-togethers about looking great that my head spun, and so it's really given me the inspiration to stick at it and lose some more. I've even bought some new clothes - just a few things.
Well done to everyone who maintained over the holiday. And even if a few pounds have crept on, they'll come off as quickly as they arrived. Best wishes to everyone for a fabulous 2009!0 -
Hi all
Officially day 2 of my new lifestyle plan.....I'm doing well with the meals I think but the decaf tea is killing me...had a raging headache for 2 days (altho NYE boozing hasn't helped:rotfl: ) I recognise it as a caffeine withdrawal headache - loving the Earl Grey decaf tea so just hoping the headache will pass soon.
Made the nutbread today from 'cake and biscuit diet' recipe, it's v nice toasted & really filling. (Poss use 1 less egg next time). I cut a big chunk off like I used to do with bread but no way could I eat it all LOL.0 -
That nut bread sounds nice. Have you got a link for it?:D
Another question:o. I'm back on the atkins induction at the mo because of my Christmas indulgence:rolleyes: but, as a general rule, if you were to go 'over the top' for one evening (out for a meal/party/a bit of alcohol), do you need to go right back onto induction again, or do you just ignore that "failure" and continue as normal the following day as though it never happened? If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.
My way is Atkins0 -
Hello lovelies and Happy New Year :hello:
Newish - I would probably continue as normal, it's all a question of balance I'd say, but shykins is more of an expert on 'proper' Atkins than I am...
Pink - I hope you enjoy reading Diet Delusion as much as I have - takes a bit of getting through it, but I found it so interesting that it was well worth the effort.
Avstar - good luck with the new plan - I hope the caffeine withdrawal headaches are short-lived.
Well, me and the Gillmeister are back home now after a round of New Year visits to family. We were in a reflective mood this morning, I guess taking stock of things and looking forward to what our hopes are for 2009. Not least of which is to continue with the weight loss - so we are back on low-carb track from Monday. And back at work too
Have a good weekend and much love to everyone

Ooo, I had a big delivery from OrientalMart this morning and I've been sampling some weird and wonderful cuisine today! Had some mung bean thread in clear soup with seaweed strips for lunch, followed by a powdered tofu that turned into a lumpy pudding when mixed with hot water... yum-yum
The chickens are laying away though, so I expect I'll have some egg and sausage tonightMortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Thanks Sazbo..i am looking forward to reading it but I have a bit of a tendency to have several books on the go at once so have resolved to wait until I have finished Bill Oddie's Autobio thingy before i start it.
My one New years resolution this year is not to buy any books until i have read all the ones i already have!
Back on track today aided and abetted by my 7 year old who has just discovered the joy of omelettes so guess what we're having for tea tonight! not til we've watched the doctor who expose first of course...titter.....Credit Card debt £10247.17 1/1/20200 -
...and my new year's resolution is just to read!:D I think over the years, reading was one of the things that my depression put the kibosh on - and I took the fact that I picked up Diet Delusion and started reading it as a sign that maybe I was getting better... so here's hoping that trend continues in 2009 :j And I hope you and Badger Lady enjoy your eggs tonight!:D

Shall we declare tomorrow the start of a mass low carb induction week for us all?
I was an :A so don't need to go back onto induction
Not a single parsnip, potato or mince pie found it's way into my mouth. No christmas pudding, no chocolate (except for the odd square of 85%) and no Baileys. Only 2 glasses of wine (1 on xmas day and 1 at new year).
I'm still away from home, so don't know if it's done me well or not (no scales here), but i'm glad not to be feeling bad now.0 -

Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.
I would rather drown with you than watch the surf with someone else0
