Thanks for the info Shykins and Sazbo :A
I'm going to carry on with tea for now - I'll get some green tea and also decaf tea, it's the act of having a hot drink to get me going esp in the winter that I don't think I can do without.
T'other half is milk intollerant and has lactofree milk so I'll just buy that for both of us - at least thats one area of shopping thats going to be easier.....just trying to get my head around still buying 'normal' shopping for him and what he calls my wierd stuff....:rotfl:
My DD is going to partake of the plan with me as much as a teenager can.....
What do people use to grind the flax/linseed? A little coffee mill type thing or something?
Just been reading the 'cake and biscuit diet' link and there are some yummy sounding recipes on there...just wish it had a different name:rolleyes: . I've always done lots of home baking so just a little shift in ingredients shouldn't be too hard.
One thing I'm struggling with is the amount of naughty food I have in my store cupboard - can't bare to throw it away but until t'other half eats it all it's going to be looking at me in the cupboard:eek: .
Did you guys have a big cupboard clear-out or gradually use up the nuaghty stuff?0 -
if u are going to use a grinder make sure its electric cos the hand ones just wont do it, i have a magic bullet type thingy that does all my grinding
i still have 'bad' stuff in my cupboards for hub and son but it just doesnt appeal to me now so i dont find it hard not to have it... as i said before this is the only 'diet' that i find i dont have cravings after the first couple weeks... course u could just not open that cupboard lol

Healthy Eating for Diabetics 1917 style Compare that with Dr Dahlqvist's diabetic eating plan
Pages 8~10 for foods that are unrestricted.
Page 11 for foods that can only be eaten moderately and occasionally.
Page 12 for the foods that should be eaten because they are particularly nutritious. (very amusing this page)
Page 13 for foods that are strictly forbidden.
I just love the menu plans at the end of the book.
They were aiming for between 30~40g of carbs daily but hey look at page 156 where they suggest a CARBOHYDRATE abstinence day when you have no carbs or follow the plan on that page to limit to 20g.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Hey guys - newbie to the low carb forum (but old hand at MSE;) ), just thought I'd introduce myself and say can I join please? !
I've spent the last month or so reading the thread and various links, making notes etc and now plan to change my life on 1st Jan.
I don't really need to lose weight :T but I don't feel 'healthy', I'm like lots of women constantly counting calories and buying low fat foods but I feel dreadful - I've got brain fog, I'm tired all the time and I know bread doesn't agree with me - immediate stomach bloating, despite all this I've existed on a diet of mostly carbs for yonks. I'm also not happy with the amount of processed food and chemicals I'm eating - I want some real food!
I know quite a few people my age (late 30's) who have developed cancer, MS etc and I'm starting to think it's our diets and environment.
My only foray into low carbing (sort-of) was Dr Perricone's wrinkle free diet, I bought his book about 4 years ago and did his diet for a while but the lack of recipes made it difficult, also I don't like salmon which was a major downer. At lot of what he said made sense tho - that the big sugar rush causes all sorts of inflammation and free-radical damage, so in addition to getting fat we look wrinkled and aged.....nice! He also linked high carbs to lots of diseases such as stroke, diabetes etc.
Anyhoo - just a couple of questions - can I have tea? Different diets seem to give different answers. Also where do most people buy the specialist items such as ground flaxseed/almonds? Any info would be gratefully appreciated.0 -
Hello all :hello: Back from my holidays now and back to work today  Welcome to my Mum too!
I had an extraordinairily naughty Christmas in the end - I decided before I arrived that I would just try to be as easy as possible to cater for while I was staying at other people's houses... so I was on daily carbs and dairy and booze... you'd have thought I'd be loving it but I felt bloated and ill nearly every day! Luckily I didn't put on any weight.
So now I'm at home again and back to normal... will be cutting out the cow's milk again, and look forward to more home-laid eggsNeed to lose another stone, ideally by my birthday (but not sure that's realistic in 6 weeks).

Well altho I don't officially start my new regime until Thursday I did pop to Asda on the way home to have a good hunt round for supplies. I bought some ground almonds, frozen cauli and some splenda - altho I'm going to try and not use the splenda if poss as I want to wean myself off sugary tastes.
Also found packets of Twinings 50 Earl Gray Decaf tea bags - normally about £2.50 and reduced to £1 a box. Grabbbed about 10 boxes as they had a long date. I can now have a cup of Earl grey which I love, without the caffeine, also I only use a tiny splash of milk in Earl Grey. I' sure my lucky bargain is a good omen!0 -
That's a top tip avstar - I like earl grey tea myself now and again - I might have a scout round my local Asda and see if they have some marked down too:D :money:
Badger_Lady, if it helps at all - I'm back at work too and hating every minute of it lol and I wish I could say I hadn't put any weight on over xmas... however comma!:o xx
