This veggie low carb forum board has lots of threads that I think you would find useful.
Thanks. I tried clicking on the veggie low carb forum but it took me Dr Dahlqvist's page.Vegetarian. Have cut out all high carb food. Not following any particular plan.Started 20/1/2009. Weight lost so far 29lbs. Target weight loss 38lb in total.0 -
on atkins u can have 2 cups of salad and a cup of veg every day from the induction list, google atkins induction list to see what u can have... if u dont want to do out and out atkins why dont u just try cutting out the high carb stuff ie bread, potatoes, rice, sugar etc and see how u go with that
as for willpower, well only u can answer that, all i can tell u is that after i made it thru the first 2 weeks of atkins my cravings disappeared.... there is quite a bit on the net about atkins and being veggie try http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=109 suspect thats what ted was linking to u
hope everyone is having a good christmas and looking forward to 2009, where we are all going to be good little lowcarbers and never cheat <cough>

Hello Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've just nipped in for a quick squizz and its nice to see that you are all still here.I've been low carbing on and off over Christmas as I've allowed myself a 2lb leeway and once I reach it I go back on the low carbing until I've lost it again and so far have gained nothing over that
Right gotta get off as I'm only a lurker on here until New Year.So have a good time until then

lol shykins at parental unit rant - can't say I blame you - better out than in, I say;):D Is it today you're to Wales? Have a fab time, hun x
Hi and welcome to newbies maltesers and Theonly'Gaye'inthevillage :hello: Gaye - there are several variations on the low carb diet, including Atkins, "From Pig to Twig", and Dr Dahlqvist's diet that Ted mentions, but the principles are broadly similar. Tinks is our resident expert on veggie low carbing:D As shykins says, prob a good start to cut out the densest carbs and take it from there.
Quickie sazzy 'hi' to everyone xx coz I'm back at work today:rolleyes: I have put on on few extra pounds since xmas but would love to get down to 9 stone in the early part of 2009 so I'm glad to have cravings out of my system and actually looking forward to getting back on track with renewed zeal:D
Much love to you all and have a good day

Hey guys - newbie to the low carb forum (but old hand at MSE;) ), just thought I'd introduce myself and say can I join please? !
I've spent the last month or so reading the thread and various links, making notes etc and now plan to change my life on 1st Jan.
I don't really need to lose weight :T but I don't feel 'healthy', I'm like lots of women constantly counting calories and buying low fat foods but I feel dreadful - I've got brain fog, I'm tired all the time and I know bread doesn't agree with me - immediate stomach bloating, despite all this I've existed on a diet of mostly carbs for yonks. I'm also not happy with the amount of processed food and chemicals I'm eating - I want some real food!
I know quite a few people my age (late 30's) who have developed cancer, MS etc and I'm starting to think it's our diets and environment.
My only foray into low carbing (sort-of) was Dr Perricone's wrinkle free diet, I bought his book about 4 years ago and did his diet for a while but the lack of recipes made it difficult, also I don't like salmon which was a major downer. At lot of what he said made sense tho - that the big sugar rush causes all sorts of inflammation and free-radical damage, so in addition to getting fat we look wrinkled and aged.....nice! He also linked high carbs to lots of diseases such as stroke, diabetes etc.
Anyhoo - just a couple of questions - can I have tea? Different diets seem to give different answers. Also where do most people buy the specialist items such as ground flaxseed/almonds? Any info would be gratefully appreciated.0 -
Hi avstar and welcome:)
Re: tea - yes - different diets do vary in their recommendations for caffeine so until someone comes along a bit more knowledgeable than myself:o all I can suggest is pick a diet that suits you, follow the guidelines and see how you get on...
Re: flax - I buy the whole flax seeds and grind them myself at home - it works out cheaper that way than buying the ready ground flaxmeal. Plus, you get the maximum benefits from them when they are freshly ground. I recently stocked up at Holland & Barrett because they had a 500g bags on sale for 99p I think. Goodness Direct sells a 3kg bag for £4.91 (but p&p on top of that). Ted H who posts on here gets his from stockists of Suma, I think.
Hope that helps:)

I'm really grateful for all your help and comments and I feel really enthusiastic and ready to start but not for a couple of weeks. I have all the Christmas stuff to finish first and then a weekend 'do' booked mid-Jan, but after that .......... I'm sure all your postings will keep my enthusiasm going till then.Vegetarian. hiya saz glad u and gilly had a good chrimbo, not sure whether still going wales as everyone has lurgy but may go NYE we shall see
avstar nice to meet you and welcome to our happy (usually) band of lowcarbers....as saz says the caffiene or not debate rages on so see how u go with it, usually its more a case of not using milk rather than not having the tea.... definitely buy yr flax as whole seeds (also called linseed in UK) as all the good stuff deteriates once its ground, almond flour is simply ground almonds and u can get it most supermarkets
hope we are all looking forward to 2009, anyone making any resolutions?
