    Hi hilary :)

Shykin's recipe for instant bread/cake here

    - I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so I tend to make this recipe with all flax meal and it makes a lovely bread substitute for me - it's good toasted, too. But I can imagine it adapts well to sweet cake-type versions also. I use a drop of water if I dont have cream to hand, and one egg rather than two, as I prefer the less eggy taste. I sometimes add a little grated parmesan and/or herbs, and/or spices, if the mood takes me :)

Have searched on this thread but can't find a recipe for one minute muffins, but found one here. Seems quite similar to the above recipe.

    - no bluenose, it isn't only you:D I now buy Green & Black's or Lindt's 85% cocoa solids chocolate, which I think is about 1gm carbs per square. As Ted says, it's very concentrated and more satisfying, so you need to eat less of it... that's the theory anyways;) xx

Daisy :hello: - this morning I had half a hi bran crispbread with butter and salami and a thin slice of pressed chicken (cut into a heart shape by Gilly badger! Aww:D). Lunch is salad, homemade coleslaw, and some gammon. Dinner tonight will be the last of the chicken, leeks and mushrooms that was done in the slow cooker. And 2 litres of water before I leave the office at 6pm.

Have a great day everyone!

I'm very tempted to try this bread so I have something to have pate on at Christmas :j

But - I've never eaten almonds because I hate marzipan. Does it taste very almondy?

Ooo I think it would be lovely with pate on, HC :j In the meantime you could have the pate on celery sticks? Saying that, I hate celery lol but I force myself to eat it coz I think I should!

Honestly, the instant bread couldn't be easier to make. I use all flax meal (ie ground flax seeds) and no almonds, so not sure how almondy it would taste if you didn't use flax. But maybe with other sweet-tasting ingredients like cocoa powder etc, that would make the almond flavour less predominant?

I make several batches at a time, slice and then freeze it, so I have a slice or two ready whenever I want it. Do bear in mind the "digestive properties" of flax though, so if you make the recipe using this, you don't want to eat too much it at any one time:D

I hate celery even more than I hate marzipan (which is quite a lot). Celery simply isn't fit for human consumption, as far as I'm concerned. :D

I have to go shopping later, so I'll try and pick up some almond flour and flax. (I'd never heard of either of them until recently!)

Thank you for the tip about flax, otherwise I could have been in for a nasty surprise. :rotfl:

:rotfl: You do get acclimatised to it, but my advice would be to start by eating a small amount and then build up gradually:D

i use all almonds in my low carb bread and i dont think it tastes that almondy - but then i do like almonds so i dont know
if you make it with 100g of almonds
    1 egg
    1 tblsp cream
25g melted butter - or i use olive oil to
    1/2 teasp bakngpowder
it doesnt make that much so if you didnt like it you havent lost a huge amount

Forgot to reply to this the other day. :o

What lovely-looking hens! I thought they'd be white, skinny, mangy, etc. But they're rather gorgeous.

    Is Fred short for Frederica...?

Have you had any eggs yet?

Thanks HC! Yes, they're very big - a few feathers missing from their necks, wings and Fred's got a bare red bottom, but otherwise not too bad.

I unfortunately had to go to London on business Monday and Tuesday, so the lodgers were looking after them. I got in late last night and found an egg! Sadly, it was broken, but it doesn't look like the chooks have eaten any of it.

I'm now on Day 6 of intermittent fasting, and I'm getting to like it... fits in very well with my social life and I'm sure I've lost a couple of inches (REEEEALY got to buy some scales!!!). It's funny, I'm sure I eat less than normal even on non-fasting days . I feel satisfied with whatever I eat, so I'm less fussy...

I also noticed I was eating more carbs (travelling isn't condusive to dieting), but in fact it only averages out to about the same. I do feel very tired, but I've been very busy so no idea if that's related or not! More testing required.

Anyway, today's a wee bit harsh because it's my first fasting day in the office. I normally eat pretty much all my food in the office! But as long as I keep busy I don't mind, and I look forward to a meal tonight... :p

saz thanks for finding the recipes and yes thats the 1minute muffin recipe i use except i use almond flour instead of flax, as i say i am not that fond of flax... if u did the bread half flax/almond i dont think it would taste like marzipan (which incidentally i hate too).... u could treatr yourself to a lowcarb breadmix for chrimbo, i make one and freeze it, usually lasts a couple months and incidentally its on offer right now at lowcarbmegastore, shame i stocked up couple months ago at full price grrrr

badger i find IF suits me too tho i do do it differently to u (i eat for 5 or 6 hrs and fast rest of time) i dont find i get hungry, drink some water if u do today

bluenose no its not just u, like the others i have dark chocolate when i need that fix, i actually dont really like the milk stuff now as it tastes too sweet... just forget about the lapse and get straight back to atkins

yeah ted u aint a woman so u dont get the chocolate thing :p ... note the rest of us completely understand lol

I am brilliant doing low carb for a couple of weeks and then I have a stupid blowout.
For example I have been following Atkins for 10 days and then last night for no reason ate two Cadburys caramel bars.
I have got up this morning disgusted with myself and am going to forget about it and resume Atkins.
The stupid thing is I feel so much better on Atkins. Damn these chocolate addictions.
I go to the gym regularly and have more energy following this way of eating.
Am currently following the BodyforLife exercise plan but not their suggested diet.

If you haven't read Neris and India's "Idiot Proof Diet" book then I would really recommend you order it from the library as it talks about this kind. It really helped me and I think you might find it useful.

Anyway, get back on plan, drink LOADS of water to flush the bad stuff out and carry on as if nothing happened! It will be worth it.

(and if the things that tempt you are lurking in your house give them away or get them out of your cupboards so you don't get tempted everytime you look at them!)

    Chocolate lover?

Aldi sell 85% chocolate (Moser Roth 125g -5x25g bars) which is lovely and only 5.4g carb for the whole 25g bar.
I usually only need to snap a bit off of the bar but if I'm not satisfied by that at least I know that my consumption is controlled by the small size of the bar. Much easier for me to do that than having to portin control a whopping great big 100g one!
