Ive been looking at Atkins for a while now but my friend goes to Slimming World and I dont understand why Atkins is so strict on carbs when SW do 'red days', which is similar to Atkins but with the fruit which we all know is good for us?

Except when it's not.
Ted has posted about the problems with fruit sugars before.
I'm far healthier now than when I lost 2.5 stone on weight watchers, and i've not eaten fruit for 9 months!0 -
I agree. I don't necessarily feel healthier when I'm eating fruit and because we've eaten quite a bit of veg and salad this time constipation hasn't been a problem yet.
I think one of the problems with weight is the constant snacking we are drawn to and some 'diets' are always promoting fruit as a snack. I'd rather have a piece of cheese anyway :rotfl:
What I don't understand is that if we have to get net carbs by deducting fibre from carbs why is broccoli and caulie higher in fibre that carbs on the frozen packs? how do we work it out?The curve that can set a lot of things straight is a smile0 -
hilary when u see the carb count on a packet that is english that IS the net carb count.. when u go to american sites etc u have to deduct the fibre from the carbs for the net carb count, hence u see a difference when u look online and on yr packets
just go by what it says on the packets assuming u are buying english stuff lol

My first four weeks is done - and I've lost a total of 12lb. :j
I'm not quite sure where it's gone from, as I don't feel - or look - much different. I think I might have lost a little from my bosom , and my contact lenses are more comfortable (not sure how that works - unless I've lost weight off my eyes).
Perhaps now, since I appear to have got the hang of it, I'll be brave enough to stop religiously counting carbs and calories. I hate counting carbs anyway, since if you look at four different carb counters you get four different carb values for exactly the same food (even bearing in mind the US ones where you sometimes have to do the fibre deduction yourself). As for Food Focus, that site is pants and contradicts itself all the time. :mad:0 -

If you can get hold of the full text of this paper it explains the role of leptin so you can understand what is going on. the finding further questions the advisability of utilizing fructose as an additive in processed human foods.
They are really concerned about the use of high fructose corn syrup but as this is similar to the fructose found in fruit and over reliance on fruit rather than vegetables could set you up for leptin resistance which in turn leads to insulin resistance. It's mainly the higher sugar fruits you need to be wary of eating too many grapes, bananas, dessert apples, mango, pineapple kiwi.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Forgot to reply to this the other day.
What lovely-looking hens! I thought they'd be white, skinny, mangy, etc. But they're rather gorgeous.
Is Fred short for Frederica...?
Have you had any eggs yet?0
