I did Atkins a couple of years ago and lost weight really quickly which then went back on just as quickly when I started adding things in. It doesnt take long for you to be eating exactly what you did before you started.

However I always felt that 20g of carbs is too low for most people to start with and sustain so this time we (OH and me) have decided to start again but on 30 -35g a day. Funny thing is that for the last two days when we decided to not be so strict we have had less than 20g, but we know the flexibility is there.

Life's too short to feel so negative about yourself or feel you 'have' to do without. Lets face it you can go out for a mixed grill and eat exactly the same as everyone else except the chips and peas.

Pity the dessert is always my favourite bit................

    Hiya.

I personally would stick to the 20g a day during induction - there is a reason for it.

As for the mixed grill, as a veggie I would be pretty hungry afterwards! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

if u feel 20g is too low (cant say i felt that) then start on 35g but it does sort of depend on what those extra 15g are made up of, if its more veg etc then thats ok..... unfortinately if u add back the things u ate before u are always going to gain after all that is what made u big in the first place, this has to be a way of life not a diet (sorry did i sound preachy then lol)

daisy everyone is talking such sense so come on girly no more negative and no more tweaking!!! its only about 10 weeks to chrimbo a big push before then and u can be back where u were

i have never found eating out a big problem particularly at the indian as i have tandoori chicken which comes with a side salad anyways, i never want pud at indian anyways so no temptation there... most places offer salad and i often ask for them to take the potatoes or whatever off the plate and add more veg

    xx

Do remember there are some folks here not doing Atkins but Dr D's who have lost weight and kept it off without ever counting carbs simply by avoiding those fruits with the most fructose and the veggies with the most starch. I was reading this interview last night which features Annika Dahlqvist and it's clear she has a more relaxed approached than some of the others. It's a case of finding out what suits you best.

OK, I'm on day 3 of intermittent fasting!

    Day 1: ate until 6pm
Day 2: drank quite a lot of soya milk, but didn't get too bothered with hunger. Had homemade curry at 10pm!!! (houseparty)
Day 3: So far, two eggs and a flat mushroom, so I'll be eating to 6pm today...

OK, so actually I did throw the curry back up again (accidentally!). For some reason, this always happens on the first couple of days I tweak my diet - consollation is, I think I lost an inch or two straight away there...

Will let you know how it goes when I settle down a bit :) I'm not being terribly strictly low-carb so far, but still on less than 50g a day, mostly from fruit and vegetable...

yes i do realise that ted hence my response but hilary had said they did atkins before, as i said it rather depends on what those 35g are made up of

badger i thought the point was to keep your eating window at the same time every day??? i may be wrong tho so feel free to ignore me lol

The one I read up on (from Ted's link) was based on 24 hour windows - so you can eat up to 6pm, then fast until the next 6pm ;)

So on Day 1: eat normally till 6pm
    Day 2: fast until 6pm
Day 3: eat normally till 6pm
    Day 4: fast until 6pm

Is that how it works? (Sorry to be dim - I'm too lazy :o to trawl through long articles sometimes.)

How long to you keep this up?

And when you're fasting, you drink nothing but soya milk and water? (Soya milk sounds disgusting!)

Just picking your brains, Badger_Lady - hope you don't mind!

Oh! And how are your chickens? How many? Have you named them? Are they in a pretty miserable state at the moment? Keep us updated with the egg situation (both laying and eating).

Yes HC, that's the idea! And if it works out it could be a permanent thing... I've always rather liked soya milk (been drinking it for yeeeeears!) - I generally whisk it up with a bit of sugarfree Crusha. And I drink lots of tea (with or without soya milk).

My chooks have indeed arrived and settled in! Here are Stella, Sheila and Fred:
