Mirry I read the transcript of the programme and it was very non-committal.But well worth watching
Right Hubbys just back from the Dentist and believe it or not the Dentist has done a study whilst at Uni into Low Carbing and had the following advice.Ted if your reading this let me know what you think
Anyway he said that the body takes 6hours to digest carbs and that is any amount of carbs whether it be 10g or 100kg.If you eat carbs and go to bed and sleep before the 6 hours are up then the body will stop digesting the carbs and lay them down as fat.So he recommended a carb free evening meal would be the best option and that that would optimise weight loss
So basically if your going to eat carbs no matter how little eat then eat them for breakfast or lunch but dont have any for evening meal
I might give this a go and see how I get on

LesleyxxI tend to eat nearly all my carbs in my evening meal.
Interesting you thought that the Horizon programme was non-committal. I thought it ended with the very firm (in their eyes) conclusion that ketosis etc. is nonsense and the reason people lose weight on Atkins is because protein fills you up to the extent that you unwittingly eat fewer calories - and hence lose weight in the usual 'calories in < energy used = weight loss' way.
One thing that wasn't mentioned at all (unless I missed it) was the effect of the diet on insulin/blood sugar levels, which I thought was a bit strange.0 -
Hi everyone :hello:
Hi lesley hun - I think the thing about carbs (esp. refined carbs) is the rapidity with which they trigger the release of insulin - rather than their rate of digestion per se - and it's the elevation of insulin which inhibits fat burning... but I've prolly got that completely wrong; miniscule brain an all that!
I'll await a drubbing by Ted:o:D
Hope everyone's ok.
Much love,

When I said it was non-committal I meant that it towed the regulation line that Low carbing is a waste of time and that low calorie low fat works just as well if not better.
Many years ago I remember watching a programme where all the diet regimes were put to the test and they said that although the Atkins gave an initially higher rate of loss by the time they had all been followed for 6months the other diet regimes had caught up so there were no actual benefits to being on the Atkins.
Well I've been on the Low Carbing for approx 9 weeks and lost 33lb there is no way I'd have lost that much being on any of the other plans

xWhen you know better you do better0 -
Not watched but guessing from the BBC link that the prog is 4 years old. That means any research they used would be between 6 and 10 years old (probably)
You only need see the number of links Ted posts to see how much more research there has been in that time.
Low carbing makes sense. It's the years and years and years of low fat brainwashing that have caused the reaction to low carb ways of eating0 -

Daisy - your carbs probably are a bit high. 5 cups of tea with SS milk - SS milk is very high in carbs and you're probably having at least 20mls per tea. That adds up. Full fat milk would be better, or single cream, or you could mix half double cream with full fat milk and just use a drop.
Can't you swap the crackers for something? almost half your daily carbs are coming from them!0
