Could anyone give me an overview of IF, please? I don't know how it works.

I too am not a brekkie person - I'd be quite happy not to eat until 11 or 12, so maybe it would suit me if I needed a bit of a kick-start.

TIA

Dr Davis of the Heartscanblog has dealt with this several time. See here

I didn't do this until after I had achieved my target weight but that is no reason why anyone shouldn't do it at any point in their new way of eating.

We know that over nutrition sets up the body for insulin and/or /leptin resistance. Either directly or indirectly via virus/stress reactions. IF not only cuts your calorie intake but because it is time limited does not set your body into starvation mode in which every single calorie is preserved.

The idea is to use soya milk or vegetable juice (V8) to supply the basic vits/mins but not a normal calorie intake, so your body goes from an early evening meal 18-20 hours before it's next main meal. You do not do this day after day. ONLY every other day say 3 times a week.eat all day Mon, only 12-6pm on Tues, all day Wed, 12-6pm on Thurs, et

You MUST take in some calories on over your fast or you risk putting your body into starvation mode where it will make the most calories out of every single thing you eat and then it becomes impossible to lose weight as even almost thinking about food causes weight gain. This strategy can be useful to kick-start weight loss efforts or as a periodic way to maintain control over weight and lipid/lipoprotein patterns.

While I didn't IF while I was losing weight I have used it successfully to maintain weight while on maintenance to see what I could get away with. We've just has some friends round for a meal,_+ dessert+ wine etc so I'll probably be a couple of lb's up tomorrow so I'll probably skip my bacon/eggs/tomato/mushroom fry up, and have a V8/tomato juice in the morning and at midday instead of ham/fish/cheese salad but I will have a proper meal protein/fat/veggies in the evening and that should be sufficient to get me back to target weight.

Don't forget that metabolic syndrome is an inflammatory process, driven not only by the pro inflammatory cytokines from adipose tissue but also from the inflammatory inputs from your diet. So ensuring you have optimum vit d3/omega 3/magnesium status maximises your natural anti inflammatory status and supports the lower pro inflammatory status that results from the low inputs from your low carb diet. If you can make oily fish your main protein then that also helps. Grass fed meat has a higher omega 3(anti inflammatory) status than corn fed meat and therefore helps the process rather than adding fuel to the fire.

thanks ted for your informative post on IF

for those who want a VERY quick overview,... basically you fast then have a 'window' of time where u eat, usually around 5/6 hrs altho you could do it every other day instead if u wanted

thats the VERY simple version, shout if u want more or i have some very good websites that cover it

Here's the strange dessert I made ......

I will call it "milkshake cake" :rotfl:
But it comes out more like a mouse with a meringue topping.

whisk all together ........

1/4 cup of milk
2 tbs sweetner
1 Tbs coco powder
1 Tbs SOYA FLOUR
2 egg yolks

Then fold into the above mixture very "gently" by spoon ;

5 floz whipped thick cream
2 stiff beaten egg whites

Then pour the whole mixture into a cake baking tin , and put it in the oven on gas mark 6 for approx 25 mins.

:D
Kindness costs nothing :)

Coconut Ice You could use cream instead of the soya milk,

Rather than waiting 30-60mins for it to thaw a quick zap in the microwave will make it soft enough to enjoy.
It can also be diluted with boiling water to make coconut milk - 200g/7oz creamed coconut will make about 600ml/20fl.oz. of thickish coconut milk

Arghh! First week without losing any weight at all!

Not totally disheartened though, as I still feel I've lost "inches". I actually don't think I've been eating enough during the day and my 1 or 2 squares of 85% choc had become 4 or 5, some evenings. One slight drawback - my wedding and engagement rings keep falling off. Lost one when I was sorting the washing earlier and found it in a sock!
