That's exactly what I'm doing! I just bought them this house:

...and then I'll be rescuing 3 traumatised chooks to liven up my gardenEggs will be a bonus - I actually haven't eaten them since I was 12, so I hope I like them... (can't bear the thought of eating mass-produced ones though, even if they are "free range"
)

I can't get that link to work - it takes me to My eBay.
Until fairly recently, my OH used to get eggs (for pennies) from a colleague who kept chickens. Then he moved jobs, so I have to buy them - and organic free-range ones cost up to £3 for 6! You just have to hope that they really are what they say on the box.
As you say, eggs from your own chickens will just be a bonus. I really look forward to them making a mess of my garden - I already have 6 dogs, 2 cats and 2 rabbits who do that, so I'm not garden-proud!
Why haven't you eaten eggs since you were a little girl?0 -
Oops! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270277887896
I went vegan when I was 12 (had been veggie since I was 4). I just never grasped the concept - when I was little, I read all about farmyard animals and how cute they were, then my mum fed them to me on a plate! I was really curious about food from an early age and wanted to know all about where it came from. The idea of eating something alive just freaked me out - I used to have nightmares about Mum serving the family cat up on a plate!
So it's only recently (after some time travelling in Greece) that I've started eating goat and sheep milk products - I've lost all tolerance of cow's milk. And egg has always been out until now!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

Those henhouses look good. If OH doesn't get around to converting our wooden Wendy-house-type thing (daughters have grown out of it now!) I might buy one of these.
Your reasoning about eating meat as a little girl sounds spot on to me. I've flirted with vegetarianism several times over the years, and (before this diet) would regularly go days without eating any meat, quite undeliberately.
Good luck with your egg-eating!0 -

Sorry to hear about your son, Sue
We're all allowed the occasional binge - it won't cause any harm, just slows you down temporarily that's all!
I've got into bad habits again of "being in a rush", therefore not doing proper meals. So yesterday I spent 8am-4pm grazing on:
olives
feta
deep-fried tofu
whole almonds
spinach
And at 8pm I made a protein smoothie with rice milk, silken tofu and hemp protein (whopping 60g protein in that baby!).
Today's mission is to try and organise the above into meals... and preferably to have a protein smoothie for breakfast instead of a bedtime drink!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Oh Sue sorry about your son I'm sure he'll find another job soon
As for the eating I think all of us who are overweight have a problem with food and at times of stress a lot of us will reach for the choccie or bread as a means of solace so dont feel too bad about it.As everyone has said it wont have any serious long term effects it will just slow your weight loss down a bit
I'm not meaning to preach but just recently I've had loads of stress and have been tempted to eat what I shouldnt but I keep thinking is this bread/cake/choccie worth the effort I have put in over the last couple of months and so far the answer has been no but if I hit a major crisis who knows what I may do so dont worry we are all human
