Read through every post from the beginning. Follow the links that you've been given.
Really, it's not hard. I have a Netgear router etherneted to a PC, plus two PCs connected wirelessly. I am not techie by any means. It is not hard if you'll just read what people tell you.
I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. But these people on here know what they're talking about (I've had loads of help from them), and have infinite patience - but only if you help yourself!0 -
I have Virgin Cable on the same router. It's the second cable (as a few of those posting seemed to have sussed!) that is causing the confusion.
Once you have it. it will be plain sailing. Only other piece of advice I can give is this. Try the internet WITHOUT security for a few minutes, so you are happy that the whole connection is stable and working.
Once you are, you can then enable wireless security (preferably WPA2).
In case we need an idiot's guide for future reference, here is what you need to check on the router settings screen (basic settings).
Disclaimer - this works for Virgin BB & cable modem (on Ethernet), and the Netgear WGR614 series. Anything else, I can't show you.
Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?
No Your modem already has these settings.
Account Name (If Required) Domain Name (If Required)Not required.
Internet IP Address Get Dynamically From ISP Use Static IP Address Should be get dynamically.
Domain Name Server (DNS) Address Get Automatically From ISP Use These DNS ServersShould be 'Get automatically'.
Router MAC Address Use Default Address Use Computer MAC Address Use This MAC AddressShould be 'Use default address'.
Apply, then test. Best way to be sure is try loading a webpage in your browser.

You simply fit the card into your PC and it gives you the Ethernet port that you need to communicate with your router. Five minute job! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
