can anyone explain this to me?

    Connect your wireless router

Since you'll be temporarily disconnected from the Internet, print these instructions before you go any further.
First, locate your cable modem or DSL modem and unplug it to turn it off.
Next, connect your wireless router to your modem. Your modem should stay connected directly to the Internet. Later, after you've hooked everything up, your computer will wirelessly connect to your router, and the router will send communications through your modem to the Internet.

how can you unplug the modem, disconnect it, connect it to the router and stay connected to the internet.. like ahh i'm missing something.

best bet is connect everything, switch power off to all and power on in this order leaving 1 min between
    1 modem
    2 wifi router
    3 computer
try that and if no joy post a bit more detail, makes models isp etc

You'll need to go into the router settings (should tell you the address on the bottom of the router, enter it in IE or Firefox) and enter your ISP username and password on the internet settings bit. For the wireless bit create a WAP or WEP key which is a security password that you will be asked to enter on any computer that that you want to wirelessly connect with. It's also a good idea to change the router password to stop over people from nicking your connection. There's usually details at the side of each section telling what you need to do if you get stuck.

You misunderstand the instructions. It tells you to type http://www.routerlogin.net into your browser. This is not the internet! You could also type 192.168.1.1 into your browser. You don't need any installation CD, just connect it up as per the manual:

    e.g. modem > wireless router > PC

    RTFM
