Just used this freephone to cancel:
0800 0665825
(got it from saynoto0845)
Option 2 put me through to an operator who sorted the cancellation out within minutes. They tried the usual trick with the free alerts and £2.99 after a period, so remember to make sure they don't leave that on your account....I will be checking!
Just used the above number, on for 5mins. Nice polite lady, did try and sell, but just advised that I gained the information that I needed, and service no longer required. Even got an email before the call ended, with confirmation of the cancellation, and that there is no current subscriptions.Cheers Dibs

I only found out today that Equifax were charging me £8.99 a month , i phoned my credit card company and cancelled all future payments. i also phoned Equifax on 0844 335 0550 and TOLD (not asked nicely or made any excuses ) them to cancel the account or in actual fact a SUBSCRIPTION that i had no idea i had set up . surely to hide the fact you are subscribing to monthly payments is some sort of a con ? anyhow its all cancelled and i have received email confirmation of this as well as my Credit Card company's assurance no further funds will be taken from my account . Don`t be nice to them folks they are doing their best to exploit less computer savvy folk and taking their money .0

They asked me why, just said i dont need it. I got what i wanted.
No problem, they tried to sell me something else. I just said no thanks.

I signed up for the £2.00 credit report in November and was charged £8.99 today. I phoned 0800 0665825 and the account has been cancelled and a refund promised. Very polite and helpful customer service staff.0

Just contacted them a minute ago 17.05 and cancelled. You have to let them finish their sell for identity theft as they keep going even if you interrupt, and seem to be devoid of humour at this time of the day too
Cancelled without problem and email confirmation a minute later.

Hi, just joined to share my experience of dealing with Equifax so far.
I registered for their free trial as I wanted to see my credit report.
I then went to cancel and realised it was impossible online.
After Googling and seeing all the terrible reports about the company, I was quite concerned. I rang the O844 number and after about 15 minutes got through. They cancelled my trial and also I asked for assurance they had cancelled the Identity Theft free trial too (after reading about people being stung by it a year later) and any other product or service I had been signed up to with them. They said I would receive a confirmation email within 10-15 minutes but it never came.
I called back an hour and a half later and they confirmed it had been cancelled (when I logged in again, I could see no products were listed) and said it might have been the fault of a system upgrade as to why I didn't receive an email, but it was not possible manually. Instead they gave me the reference number for the order cancellation.
I then noticed £1 had been taken out of my account. I called this morning and they said it was to verify my account and would appear again in a few days' time. This isn't unusual but at no time and nowhere in the small print could I see that they would do this. Anyway, they confirmed again it had been cancelled but said my account would remain active indefinitely. I said I wanted them to remove it and they gave me the web address where you can submit queries. I went to log in but it said my account has now been disabled!
I contacted my bank this morning and cancelled my card anyway after hearing so many horror stories of people still being charged despite clearly having cancelled everything.
My question is, some people said they are still being charged after changing their card...how is this possible?! I am concerned because I will be abroad soon and not in a position to chase them and the bank for refunds.
I totally regret not checking reviews online first. It is a total waste of time and money, really don't bother with this company at all!0 -

You were lucky getting it for £8.99, it cost me £14.95. Anyway after a 7 minutes call to the Phillipines, hopefully at the quoted 5p per minute, they promised cancellation. Eureka!:T If a job needs doing, do it :T0 -
This thread was started in 2005 and I'm having the same trouble canceling my subscription to Equifax in 2013!!!
For a mere 5p per minute from a BT landline you can call to have your account canceled but you will be kept on the phone for ages while they try to change your mind, at your expense.
What a load of SH*TE!
There is no freephone number, and no way to email them directly through your online account. There is merely a page for FAQs that avoid the issue altogether.
Everytime I type in Cancel account, or cancel agreement, I get nothing but evasion. But if I type in cancel subscription or cancel contract I get:
"How do I cancel, amend or upgrade my Equifax subscription?
I need to change my subscription.

(AREN'T THEY GENEROUS TO THEIR CUSTOMERS BY GIVING US A PREMIUM RATE TELEPHONE NUMBER AS THE ONLY MEANS OF CONTACTING THEM DIRECTLY TO CANCEL OUR CONTRACTS?)
"Phone 0844 335 0550
8am to 8pm 7 days a week.
Calls cost 5p per minute from a BT landline, charges from other networks may vary and from mobile phones cost significantly more."
FYI, the contract says:
"Cancellation and Refunds
As the products that we provide to you are immediately available for your use upon acceptance of your application to receive them, you will not be able to cancel this Agreement under Regulation 10 of the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.
Refunds – Our general policy - Unless you have purchased an annual subscription product from us, we will not refund you for any payments made for any of our products.
Refunds – Annual Subscriptions - If you cancel an annual subscription service for any reason, you may be entitled to a partial refund based on a monthly fee calculation. On or around the date that you cancel the annual subscription, we will credit you the annual subscription fees that you have paid and retrospectively apply a charge as if you had purchased the relevant service as a monthly subscriber. This charge will start on the date that you started your subscription and continue until the end of the relevant 30 day period in accordance with the terms of the Monthly Subscription above. The new applied monthly subscription fee will not be more than the annual subscription fee that you have already paid for that year.
For example:
If you start an annual subscription product on 1 January, paying an annual subscription fee of £69.99 and cancel your subscription on 15 April, we will charge you an amount equal to 4 whole months at the current monthly subscription rate for the relevant service and re-calculate your fee as follows:
4 months @ the current monthly subscription rate (£7.50 per month) = £30.00
Your refund will be £69.99 - £30.00 = £39.99."0 -

Does anyone have a landline number that I can call Equifax on from abroad? The 0800/0844 numbers don't work where I am and I need to cancel my account! My online account has been locked so I can't message them that way (to unlock it I need to call them... can't as the number won't work.... grr!)
So frustrating.
Edit... just spotted number in post 147 (01274 759 759), thanks MSE! Currently in queue waiting. Such a fun hour I've just had trying to find this number!0
