    Hi FHBrit

Oops sorry for delay. Thanks for your reply.

Yep looking into insurance now as we've only got four weeks before we go, so rush to get everything done now including insurance! We are indeed family of four comprising of me - mum, dad-hubby, kids aged 5yrs and 21 months. (And sis family and few others, a fair few of us altogether) We have a free family travel cover with husbands employer RBS Insurance. Out of interest do you have any dealings with them? Good/Bad? Have looked in the policy booklet. Looks very reasonable when comparing to others, but so complex when reading the whole of the booklet!

Can't take bridal wear as hand luggage as far as we know? I'm going to type lables with all flight info and our contact details and put them inside the case in case anything does goes wrong. Waht a worrier I am!! Last time case was ripped in half but got all stuff back eventually. More worried if suitcase goes missing permanently but think we claimed from airline not insurance last time so hubby informs me.

Interesting what you mentioned regarding landlord insurance cover. Do know that the landlord did rehouse them immediately and called round a few times and was more than helpful, perhaps if he was liable to some degree this may explain why?! They only went through their own travel insurance on return to England and were not covered for camcorder, jewellery, camera etc. tho did get some of their money back. Mentioned to my mum and she confirmed as you pointed out it was Sheriff Deputy not Sheriff that came out to them.

If you get chance can you let me know your opinion of RBS cover. Don't know if to buy a second family policy just in case.

    Thanks loads

RBS are fine - better than most.

Remember - just do the insurance on you, hubby and kids, let the others sort their own insurance.

  • Thanks for that and thanks for giving me your opinion FHBrit. Using RBS as it does seem reasonable when reading in depth but taking Dacouch's advice too and upping personal effects part on home insurance.

Thanks a lot. No offence meant but hopefully I won't ever get to meet you FHBrit in a Florida Hospital!

I hope not as I work in the finacial centre and if I met you, I'd be sick! And hopefully you wn't need the insurance anyway.
Wishing you happy & claim free Travels!

This is probably one for Dacouch. We bought a holiday home in Florida (Sarasota area) last year and having spent most of our time there "working on it", planned to return for a proper holiday soon. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with cancer and am undergoing fairly intensive treatmment for a few months. All being well, we would like to be ale to visit once given the all clear to travel by the doctors, but I have been given to understand that getting insurance for America is very difficult in these circumstances. It will be a while until it is relevant, but I was hoping for some suggestions as to the best companies to try and whether there are any known to be better disposed towards these kinds of situations?

ROSEANNA - Yep, DA prob knows best here but my thouights are that it does depend on ttype of cancer and prognosis. You may want to look at a few of the cancer support group websites as you can share info with those that have already experienced what you are going through and often can assist with ins companies that they have already found.

Wish you well, the Florida sunshine will do you good!
