Hi,
Can anyone offer any advice on how to "make" cleaning products? I am trying to get into a routine before my baby starts school in Sept and i have to get a job!! I am looking at a floor cleaner (for wood and laminate), and a polish for furniture..oh and something that is fab for leather sofa!!
Many thanks
Claire
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to give you lots more ideas:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
that sounds mad!! Worth a shot though. I'll leave it in the garage! Thats exactly the kin of the thing that I meant!
What can i use it on? The floor and worktops?
The enzyme cleaning solution can be used on anything that you would use a multi purpose cleaner on. Tables, worktops, floors, doors, cabinets, bathroom and I've even cleaned the loo with it. It works brilliantly.
And it's all natural, no nasty chemicals and it smells lovely and citrus fruity.0 -
I live in a really hard water area, and kettles die on us at an alarming rate.
I got a new one Thursday last week (3rd Feb) and when I looked inside it last night it has already started to scale up.
You can't see the shiny bottom inside the kettle at all. I managed to wipe the scale off the sides and the water indicator with hard pressure and some kitchen roll, but I couldn't shift the scale on the bottom.
I have one of those kettle thingies that collects limescale, and it had collected loads, but it's still not man enough to prevent build up.
I can't be doing with (or afford for that matter) to filter my water, so I was wondering if anyone could suggest anything to remove the scale from the bottom of the kettle which I can use on a regular basis without ruining my new kettle please?Aug11 £193.29/£240

(White) vinegar! Boil it up with vinegar in it, then pour out: repeat if really bad, then boil some water in so it doesn't leave a taste.
I noticed that you said your kettle has a shiny bottom? If it's a metal kettle, I'm not sure if it wouldn't tarnish the metal, but perhaps someone else can advise on that better than me.Please call me 'Pickle'

Thanks for the reply Ina
- yes, sorry, I forgot to say that it is a metal kettle, which is why I'm unsure what to use.
I wondered about vinegar, but like you, am unsure what effect it will have as the kettle it totally metal (apart from the water indicator, which is white plastic)Aug11 £193.29/£240

I'm sure someone on here will have a metal kettle and will let you know as soon as they see your post. I've only ever done it on a plastic one, so I don't want to suggest you do it then hear it's ruined the kettle: not very :money:!Please call me 'Pickle'

As there are so many uses for white vinegar and bicarb of soda is there anywhere that I can buy it in larger quantities that are more economical. I am forever raiding the local supermarket of their Sarsons and the small tubs of bicarb.
I bought a 5L container of white vinegar from an Asian foodstore.Weight loss 0/2st

You don't need to use white - bog standard malt is fine for the vast majority of uses - and asda sell 500mil bottles for between 13 and 15p usually. This works out at 30p per litre - or £1.50 for five litres... which is pretty goodHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
