Please please do not do this to your leather. Apart from any damage that it may do to the finish it makes the surface very unhygienic as the banana rots. I think ths comes from the fact that some 'leather conditioners' on the market contain banana oil which actually has nothing to do with bananas!!
Always tke expert advice when cleaning leather as there are o many types of finish on the market it is important to use appropriate products for the job so that expensive repairs are not needed. Most household cleaners will damage leather finishes.
Hope this helps

You'll probably have to buy Borax substitute. I got mine from a local hardware shop.

Proper borax is no longer available, just borax substitute now (thanks Brussels!) If you cant find it locally it is available online from Dri-Pak0

I use Enzyme.
Make it yourself stuff that is virtually free and cleans like the :T
It takes some time but it really works super!
Take about 300 grams citrus peel. (orange, lemon etc)
about the same in brown sugar or honey. You want a natural kind of sugar in any case.
One liter of water.
Keep in a plastic container with lid. Leave for 3 months.
You need to open the lid every few days to let the pressure out because it ferments and pressure build up can cause your container to explode.
For my first batch I was impatient and couldn't wait past 4 weeks. So I drained the 'bits' out and tested it.
It works brilliant!
Smells lovely and fresh and really cleans very well. It is just not done fermenting yet so have to keep opening the lid of the bottle to let the pressure out.
Use it as all purpose cleaner, diluted with water.
It leaves everything looking and feeling squeeky clean.
Sorry if this is a silly question, but do you just put everything [ie cold water] in together and leave it, or does the honey /sugar have to be dissolved in warm water first
Thanks0 -

Proper Borax IS available - try Ebay (there's also a company down in the West Country that sells it - they are on Ebay too).0 -
Hi all,
recently my partner lost his job.
We've been thinking of different ideas of business to bring some money home, we came up with cleaning business but where we make the cleaning products so that they're friendly to the environment and ok round kids/animals.
Last week i made a multi purpose cleaner and an air freshener and today i made my own washing powder(ish), lol
The business hasnt started yet, but as were now on the dole im trying to find other ways of making my own cleaning products etc, ive seen homemade toothpaste which im going to give a try
I just wondered if anyone had any recipes etc (p.s. i am going to have a look around this board now)
thanks and Hi0 -
Hello,
I know this is true for most of us, but times are tough financially in this household at the moment.
So, I'm looking for any way I can to save the pounds. What are your top tips for saving on household cleaning products?
Thanks muchly0 -
people on here swear by startdrops but as i can't get any....
Everything can be cleaned with hot soapy water and bleach there is no need to buy anything else.
Value dishwasher tablets are completely fine.
I bulk buy my laundry liquid, at the moment i have a years worth plus a huge bag of crushed tablets i got off a local facebook page, it was £6.60 for 250 washes, you can buy these on ebay aswell and they work fine, you don't need fabric soften unless you like nice soft towels and bedding, anything else you won't notice it and if you use a decent powder/liquid and dry your clothes outside they'll still smell nice.DEC GC £463.67/£450
EF- £110/COLOR]/£10000 -
Nearly free enzyme cleaner here

Just made my first batch and it seems to get stuff clean and smells nice...
I DO find branded dishwash tabs and laundry stuff better- but stock up on offer. Using a decent cleaner means I can do most laundry on a cold quick wash and therefore saves on wtaer and fuelPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
