I have decided that this year I really need to cut down on what I spend. I have got a cupboard of cleaning products that I haven't used but I am needing to replace some i.e. window cleaner etc.
Is there a thread for old style cleaning products that I can somehow make, that would be better for the environment and save me money in the meantime?
I have had a quick look but can't find any. Many thanks0 -

Hi,
Can anyone offer any advice on how to "make" cleaning products? I am trying to get into a routine before my baby starts school in Sept and i have to get a job!! I am looking at a floor cleaner (for wood and laminate), and a polish for furniture..oh and something that is fab for leather sofa!!
Many thanks

Hi,
I don't use home made but this is what I use, I go for cheap or free, can you tell
We have a wood floor and I just use the cheapest multi surface cleaner, or just hot water.
Furniture polish, I used to use Sainsburys Lavender spray, but now I just use a microfibre cloth, same for the tub chairs as well.0 -
i buy stardrops you can dilute and use to clean almost everything, plus vinegar for my windows, any glass, mirrors and great as a fabric softner in washing machine and good for cleaning your washing machine:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

A good general purpose surface cleaner can be made from one part Stardrops, one part white vinegar and one part water.
I've got mine in an old, but well washed out, trigger spray bottle. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I use Enzyme.
Make it yourself stuff that is virtually free and cleans like the :T
It takes some time but it really works super!
Take about 300 grams citrus peel. (orange, lemon etc)
about the same in brown sugar or honey. You want a natural kind of sugar in any case.
One liter of water.
Keep in a plastic container with lid. Leave for 3 months.
You need to open the lid every few days to let the pressure out because it ferments and pressure build up can cause your container to explode.
For my first batch I was impatient and couldn't wait past 4 weeks. So I drained the 'bits' out and tested it.
It works brilliant!
Smells lovely and fresh and really cleans very well. It is just not done fermenting yet so have to keep opening the lid of the bottle to let the pressure out.
Use it as all purpose cleaner, diluted with water.
It leaves everything looking and feeling squeeky clean.0 -
that sounds mad!! Worth a shot though. I'll leave it in the garage! Thats exactly the kin of the thing that I meant!
What can i use it on? The floor and worktops?“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what.
