Sellers not posting feedback until they've recieved feedback

This is my number one gripe about ebay.
I hate it when sellers don't post feedback until you have posted feedback about them.
If you have paid for an item (especially if you have used PayPal) then the seller should immediately give you positive feedback.
My policy now is to not leave feedback for sellers who do this. In fact, I think ebay should prevent a buyer leaving positive feedback unless the seller has left feedback first. A buyer could still leave negative feedback if the seller was a bad though.

As a seller, I normally put feedback up a few days after i've posted. This is just incase there are any issues with the buyer.It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
As smartie says, what happens if the buyer receives the item and has problems/is not happy with it?
To me, a seller who leaves feedback before ensuring a buyer is happy with their purchase is indicating that they see this as the end of their obligation to the buyer. I would worry that they would be reluctant to cooperate if things go wrong.0 -

as a seller, we have a lot to loose from buyers who pay with paypal then hold us hostage by threatning chargebacks and neg feedback,
not to mention the fraudulant transactions that happen 4 days after receiving payment, which would result in you leaving a scammer positive feedback
even ebay's standard email templates encourage buyers to leave feedback when they're happy, then the seller will do the same
there was a loooooooooooong thread about this a while back about the merits of feedback, go read that

I do leave negs for timewasters
that policy works well for me, i'm nearly 530 feedback now, and only 3 negs, one of which was a genuine complaintmoney saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I'm sure i have read somwhere that ebay themselves tell sellers not to leave feedback until the buyer has to ensure that the sale is complete and the buyer is happy with the goods0

Agree totally again with you Bleugh...I do exactly as you do regarding feedback. It works well and is fair. Many, many times before I've left feedback after satisfactory payment only to have the buyer not bother to leave feedback in turn, even after reminders.. This method also stops uncalled for negs, being left for you, but I would not neg in spite.Bless Martin's Little Cotton Socks. I thank him for giving us MSE. Look what its grown into!

As a seller I will NOT leave feeback until the buyer has signaled that they are happy with the item normally by leaving +ve feedback. There are far too many buyers on EBay who do not communicate if there is a problem and the first thing you know about it is a big fat negative.
If a buyer does not want to leave feedback thats fine with me it is voluntary.
If you look at my thread regarding a Men's kilt jacket you will see a perfect example of why I don't leave feedback first.
Buyer buys kilt jacket then gets in touch saying it doesn't fit and wants a full refund inc P+P. I politely decline (which they accept) I then get an e-mail saying SHE is surprised that it is a man's jacket (aren't all kilt jackets men's??) and asking why it was posted in women's clothing category (mild panic) I check listing and it was correctly listed in the men's section. Had I left a positive what comeback would I have had had this buyer decided to leave a negative???

Your policy on not leaving feedback until the other party has left feedback is great for you but if everyone did that the system would be no use since everyone would have a zero feedback rating.
Personally I would like to see ebay set up an fixed order for leaving feedback to stop all these issues.
As I now have an OK rating (100+) as a seller I leave feedback once the buyer has emailed me (I request this & do it my self, it does not need to be via the feedback system) to say they have received the item and as a buyer I don't leave feedback until the seller has. This policy has probably cost me about 20 feedbacks (so a 20% loss on my rating but I don't care as I'm fed up with sellers so obviously not leaving feedback until it has been received which I feel lets sellers get away with selling shoddy goods and doing nothing about it as buyers fear their feedback if they leave a negative.0 -

A sellers poor feedback has hell of a lot more impact on them.
As a buyer unless you have a minus figure in your feedback it has little or no effect on what you buy.
If as a seller you have poor feedback that will impact hugely on sales and prices received.0 -
I used to always leave feedback as soon as the buyer had paid for the item but found that they never left it back. Now I wait until they have left feedback for me as I think it reminds them to do it. In the past I have missed out on at least 100 feedbacks from buyers who just can't be bothered. It's so annoying when you taken time to pack their parcel up and email them to let them know how the transaction is going (I email all my buyers at the end of the auction, on receipt of payment, if it's a cheque I email when the cheque has cleared and again on posting) and they can't even be bothered to post a short comment to say thankyou.
