Afternoon everyone. Coconut loaf is in the oven (is it supposed to be that runny before it goes in !:o ). Twinks hobnobs also in the oven (just hope that I've got time to get the next batch in before I have to leave for school run  ).

I had to pop into Sainsbury's today for some shopping for work and while I was in there they had supercook marzipan reduced from £3.99 to £1  . I must confess I bought some as I've been toying with the idea of making Xmas cakes instead of the puddings and this kind of made up my mind for me.

They also had cooking chocolate (Dr. Oetker (sp?) for 44p reduced from £1.88 !!! I bought a 'few' packets of that too :T .

So, will be looking for advice on Xmas cakes from all you lovely ladies.

I haven't forgotten to PM those the chutney recipes by the way - just been a bit hectic here ! Will get it done tonight, i promise ! :D

Off to check my hobnobs ! :p

Welcome Cherry Blossom :hello: Always room for one more!

    Just a quicky please...

Was in ASDA earlier and they had packs of cherries for £1. DH fav fruit. Bought *gulp* 8 packs. going to make some cherry jam for him and the rest will be in the freezer for cherry bread, pancakes, muffins etc. I want to add some amaretto to the jam which should taste nice. I am wondering however, how much sugar to how many cherries is the ratio. I am using jam sugar just not sure how much of each, is it basically like for like?

Also got some more apples and lemons and going to make some lemon curd this weekend or maybe this evening. Anyone know how much that microwave recipe makes as I am filling 12oz jars!! Still have about 70 of them left!

Paralympics I think are positively incredible and the UK is doing wonderful!! Just wish they got as much tv time as the normal olympics did, seems such a shame, just my humble opinion!

Well off for a short bit to do some more CV reading and send out interview letters. May go out in the back garden for a few mins to see if any changes in the veg there. have about given up on that:eek:

Try "what are the little orange dots in the shepherds pie"? me: Orange? Do you mean the grated carrot? :p "no the little dots" - obviously didn't cook the lentils long enough that day ;)

We explained to the kids they were lentils, had protein, good for you and low fat and that you can't taste them. Also told them they'd been eating them for 6 months in any case - they are fine with them mixed into mince now :)

My 3 year old came in to the kitchen the other day while I was weighing out apples for a cake - "What are you making?" "Apple cake" "Oh ... my favourite [everything is his favourite at the moment lol] can I help" "Yes, OK, go & wash your hands" ds returns, clean-handed & walks straight to the cupboard "What are you getting?" "Lentils" "There are no lentils in apple cake" "Yes there are Mummy ... there are lentils in EVERYTHING" :rotfl::rotfl:

  • ooo lesley a recipeeeee perchance for the naan...I could try with fry light to make up for the choc brownie testing!!

I used this one from The Curry Book

    450g plain flour
    1 tsp sugar
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp bicarb
    1tsp baking powder
    2tbsp dried yeast
    2-3 tbsp plain yogort
    1 egg
    125ml milk
    50g butter / marg

mix all dry ingredients with yeast, yogort and egg. Warm the milk and add a little at a time until the dough forms (I had some very old and gone thick yog, and just used that). Knead for a bit and leave to rise in a warm place until doubled in size. Knock back by squishing it about with your hands a bit. Then divide into 4 or 6 pieces. Flatten each piece to about 1/4 inch / 5mm and allow to rise again. Brush with melted butter and cook under a hot grill until golden brown, flip over and repeat.

I did all this and cooked just one for the meal, using the grill. Then I put the rest in the fridge in individual pots for other days. The mix then proceeded to make a bid for escape by overflowing the pots and pushing the lids off! So I put it all into a much larger plastic container, with a lid and just left it. A few days later, I thought I'd have a go cooking one in a cast iron frying pan (not enamalled, just iron), with no oil to see what happened, and it was better than the grilled one. Have cooked about 4 more saucer sized ones for OH over several days (it's been in the fridge about 2 weeks now) using peach sized lumps and it has worked brilliantly. No idea how long it would last in the fridge!
  • Thanks for the warm welcomes folks. It sure is an addictive thread. Like the rest of you I now think £3 would feed Weezl for 6 days!! Makes you think. Cherry xo
