Try "what are the little orange dots in the shepherds pie"? me: Orange? Do you mean the grated carrot? :p "no the little dots" - obviously didn't cook the lentils long enough that day ;)

We explained to the kids they were lentils, had protein, good for you and low fat and that you can't taste them. Also told them they'd been eating them for 6 months in any case - they are fine with them mixed into mince now :)
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • morning me lovelies...well I can confirm that the verdict on the brownies and ice cream were yummy!! The brownies look as if they have a coat of choc on top - possibly due to the oil and choc in the recipe...the ice cream is hm and I'll find the recipe and post later. Must freeze the rest though as know I'll eat it otherwise. Theres a bit for Fergus later though as AM is popping in to get some mags and bring my preserving books back! What recipes woud pepys like for ice cream sauces? I have an ice cream book with loads of recipes so if people say what they fancy I'll see what can do - make the best of it before I go back to work girlies!! I tried the peach and amaretto jam this am and its more like a compote tbh...prefer the plain peach jam!!

That and a bit of bribery never go amiss - as does making them work for pocket money!

I can't remember if I've already posted this, but dark green/brown lentils (http://www.natco-online.com/acatalog/info_L3560.html), boiled in chicken (or, I guess, any meat) stock with a bay leaf and black pepper, can be added to mince dishes where they will become invisible!

The only down side is that grean lentils take a long time to cook cf. red lentils, which in these times of rising gas prices is not good.
  • I need to make some more lemon curd - ds's love it on toast! I have no jars left though (full of tomato chutney lol!).. reckon I could use a tupperware container if it is kept in the fridge?

hi there, as requested the chilli jam recipe was doctored from delia here but I didn't use the thai fish sauce or 2 different sorts of posh vinegar!!!

The dark chocolate sauce for ice cream I made up out of my head, I used dark chocolate, sugar, vegetable oil (butter would have been too stiff at fridge temperature)...
I can knock up another batch if you'd like more precise measurements!!!!;):o

Been trying to be a bit of a flylady today, as I unexpectedly have some energy!

    So far have:
    put dinner in slo-cooker
put on one load of dishwasher
    one load of washing (darks)
put away groceries from yesterday's asda shop (oh must adjust my sig!!!!)

    cleaned my grimy kitchen sink

    feeling very virtuous:D

Hope you are all having a good day.

    Love weezl x

  • Forgot to add...

I do "Hampers" or similar for our parents every christmas - I don't have a theme as such but through the year I pick up bits and bobs that I think X would like that or Y would like that and add it to their hamper box, I then add a bottle of wine or some chocolates or biscuits for a special treat, maybe some posh tea or coffee etc and I try and get a book for each person - like has already been said, stuff that they can afford to buy themselves but perhaps wouldn't.. but also, stuff that they will use! Saves me struggling for ideas but also struggling cause I cannot afford "big" presents.. Last year onion marmalade (Kethry's recipe) went down VERY well with DDad and I did GF/DF mince pies and DF flapjack for DM who wouldn't make these for herself.
  • when you gals talk about HM naan, do you have them made in the freezer?

The reason I ask is that I don't have any freezer space. I bought the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day book (can't resist cook books!)and when I had some friends over for an Indian meal, I left the remaining naan mix in the fridge as the book suggests. Then had a naan every fourth day or so, still a bit left, and it works fabulously well.

Just took a peach sized piece out, flattened it out, cooked it in a hot ungreased iron frying pan and spread a little Utterly Butterly on it and it was fab. Haven't tried cooking with a little ghee yet, but will. The surface will def be different, may be better, may not! Will let you know
  • ooo lesley a recipeeeee perchance for the naan...I could try with fry light to make up for the choc brownie testing!!
Now ere Mrs weezl dont ya go overdoing it eh! that there body is knitting a baby (as if ya's forget!) and if you've been all active would suggest a wee snooze or a "rest" as me granny would say! She always denied falling asleep but funny how her eyes were so often shut for lengthy times!! Very good for you!
Did anyone watch the baby milk thing on c4 last night? Have to say I'm not sure what I felt but dont think if I had a baba that it would be getting booby juice from anyone but me...free food n all but some things are sacred!Mind you that couple in usa were speiding $1000 a month on breast mik...shame you cant flog it over here but possibly a money making trip too far!!
