Just checked....MSE Martin is aware the smilies arent working properly - says he's getting them looked at on Monday.

Just for those missing our smilies - checked my way through the lot of them and most of them work...if one accesses them by getting them through clicking on the "more" word underneath the smilies to the left when typing in a reply.

oooh how frustrating..especially parking in your visitors space  .... I can't believe someone told hubby where she went to get her blackberries as he was talking about us going blackberrying -I know its near the end of the season (still got 2lbs)-but I will still be using it next year -although if there are loads to be had I would pick them and then send her half -no point leaving them on for her as either a) they would drop off or B) someone else would get them ....

We passed some houses on our way -tucked away in woods with lovely apple trees, vegies growing... bliss ... At least they had a big tub under 1 apple tree and it was overflowing where someone had been busily picking up windfalls... I said to hubby if my German was better or if it was in the UK i would have rattled on the door and asked about buying any extra produce:D

I have noticed that the sacks/nets of bulk veggies are starting to appear out here now... 10 kilo of potatoes for €4 , 10 kilo red or white cabbage €2 5kilo carrots €2... they sell them in supermarkets here like you normally have to get from farm shops :T Im waiting for the boxes of apples and buckets of oranges to appear - get through loads.. I have a 5kilo net of onions for €1.69..... i really think autumn is here and winter isn't far behind...
Im so glad I have started getting extra store food in etc.. Im not getting caught short. It will mean spending a bit more house keeping for the next couple of months but then I can pul the belts back in ;)

I had some of the coconut rice pud i made earlier -with a dollop of my free stewed blackberries n apples..oh it was gorgeous- i never used to like rice pud  ..hubby didn't want any (shame) so i have some left for tomorrow :j ....
right im back off to finish my planning

wow bargain prices Mrs M i have found a farm that sells 55kg/4 stone bags of spuds for a fiver and thought that was good ,we have new potatoes we grew left but didn't bother with big ones due to lack of space

I have been stocking up on squash at a local farm ,watermelon size ones for 50p and they keep all winter

Got loads of apples(bramleys) i want to make a pie filling with apples sugar and sultanas and keep in jars over winter but a bit wary of it not being safe to eat but i guess its a bit like making jam any tips

Mrs Mc do you bottle your passata or freeze it got loads of toms ready and ripening but no freezer space

    Hi shaz..

Strangely enough - I have been freezing it -but now i am jam packed with it -so im going to luck into bottling it next season -The rest of the tomatoes still ripening outside will have to get used as they are ready... I must have had at least 40lb of tomatoes so far -not counting those snaffled whilst im working in the garden lol
I need to make some more sausages soon -but have no freezer space for them ..
Im still hoping my butternuts will do okay and have more seeds coming thanks to lesley -the jack be little ones -ohh and mum is sending me more seeds too -as if i don't have enough..but it would be rude to refuse them wouldn't it :-)
mind im sending some of mine back for mum...
Don't know if anyone has joined the "a nonny mouse site"... but i have put some veggy seeds up for grabs if anyone is interested -as im not supposed to exchange addresses here -insert winking icon lol
right back off to the planning n listing
    have a good evening all

well...there's now 39 of us to date on the NonnyMouse Forum - including myself and Mrs M...

    - so not bad going as its only a few days old so far.

The idea being that its a Kindness Forum basically (rather than a moneysaving one like M.S.E.) - "pay it forward" and all that idea...

    Its on:

    http://nonnymouse.forumotion.net/forum.htm

    (ie thats the registration page)

EDIT; make that 41 people so far - 2 more have registered since I last looked.

    Hi Ceridwen,
do you know of any sites that show what to do to save seeds please?
I once tried to save some basil seeds from my plant and it was a disaster so i gave up.
I`ve saved some pepper seeds and dried them while ago but must have done something wrong as the plants that grew from them were terrible.
I`d love to be able to save seeds sucessfully and swap them, i know that it`s a bit late this year but i could try again next time.
    Thanks

    Hi

I give below two links on seedsaving you will find useful:

    www.seedsave.org/issi/issi_904.html

    www.care2.com/greenliving/save-your-seeds-how-to-directions.html

This is something that is extremely important for those gardeners amongst us - as at least one (I wont name them here;) ) HUGE international company seems to be trying to patent every seed in sight - and are notorious for the fact that they want to put "killer technology" in their Genetically Modified seeds they are working on - ie the poor Third World farmers who rely on being able to re-use (by means of saving and sowing seed from previous years) will be forced to buy seed again unnecessarily (as seed saved from these plants wont "work").

It is also vital to preserve genetic diversity - so seedsaving of more unusual varieties is all part of that as well.

(NB: Please be aware that any post from an apparent "poster" that comes up by coincidence on this thread about G.M. after this may actually be from one of these firms - as they have technology that tells them when something on this comes up on the Internet - so they can whack in a reply from an apparent "ordinary person in the street". It happened on a blog I frequent the other day.)
