Hello there all you lovely readers, lurkers and posters :hello::hello::hello:,
Have popped in at elevenses to let you in on a little secret... here's your coffee and cake :coffee::bdaycake:
Decorating aside, I must now confess to another thing which has kept me from posting so much of late.
It would appear that a small Weezl is on the way. I am 13.5 weeks pregnant.
Gulp.
Now the thing is, that having spent my whole life priding myself on being a tremendously unfussy eater, I quickly realised this had become a thing of the past!
Lentils-yuck
saag bhajee-yuck
Anything made out of the pig's head-yuck (I was 7 weeks pregnant the day I excavated the pig's brain!_pale_)
What were we to do? I ate all the meals in the freezer I could keep down:eek:, and then hit a dilemma. I couldn't tell you all, cos it felt too soon as family and friends didn't know yet. I couldn't cheat, as I am a woman of my word.
Much head scratching ensued....
Acetate Monkey, protective of miserable food-hating me, and concerned for the development of Fergus the foetus (his current nickname:eek:) concocted a plan.
It's 50p per person per day, quoth he...you won't have cheated if you eat another 50p. He in fabulously magnanimous fashion has remained true to his 50p throughout:o. (although Fergus gave him a bowl of muesli t'other day!)
So, that's what I decided to do. I really hope I haven't let anyone down and have remained true to the spirit of the challenge. I have lots more geeky maths related to how to get enough calcium etc for pregnancy on my new plan!
I felt if I posted my daily figures before, the game would be up, but if you'll all still have me, I shall continue to post away in earnest!;)
Other facts you might like to know, due date 05/03/09. Scan was wednesday and heart and limbs were all present and correct.
Love to you all, and may I beg your forgiveness for my secrecy?:D
Weezl x

Hi all - I need some saucepan help!
What size pan would I need to make 8lbs of chutney?
Thanks!0 -
have been using the Hovis Granary bread mix from Asda as it was on offer for 27p (OH only really likes granary, he's not that keen on wholemeal). Went to stock up again on Friday and found that the offer had been withdrawn and changed to 2 for £1. Damn
Meanwhile, Tesco was offering same price, same product, although our little pop in store doesn't sell it. So today I had a look to see if Tesco were price matching Asda with their wholemeal flour to see if it was worth getting a delivery, otherwise it's a 30 mile round trip. The rotters have withdrawn the offer on the granary flour and it's at full price £1.18 which I'm not paying! I only started baking bread again recently as the pks were so cheap, I'm not paying full price for it! It is esp annoying as Tesco were showing the granary pks on offer until 31st Dec 08 as recently as yesterday and Asda a couple of days before that (that was the last time I checked). Having got home from Asda, I checked Tesco and thought oh good, I can still get some from Tesco for a while, I'll stock up when I'm in town or do a delivery order.
SO, ladies, I know that granary flour is white flour with bits in, so I thought if I used say, half white and half wholemeal, and found somewhere online to buy some malted bits to put in it, that would probably work. Anyone done anything similar - does it work, do you have a 'bits' supplier?
yours, fed up with blimmin supermarkets price wars

Hey, I made some chutney recently and was amazed at the volume of it. I used a pressure cooker without the lid and it came right up to the top, very difficult to stir so I would probably split it into a couple of pans in future, HTHGod is good, all the time

I thought this might be the case!
Is it best to use non-stick pans? Or doesn't it matter?0 -

Apparently the heavier the base the better, I am not sure about non-stick but I would say as it has quite a lot of liquid in it it should be fine in a normal pan. Enjoy, it will taste amaaaaazing I'm sureGod is good, all the time

Hi all,
Having a lovely sunny day here in South Devon and have a roast chicken in the oven which is smelling fab. Am still trying to persuade my OH to let me make soup with the carcuss but he hates the idea *sighs*. If it isn't from a tin, he doesn't want to know. He can be so stubborn sometimes!
ashia - my OH says the toffee bashing is the best part for him!!! He does find it theraputic!
Woohoooo Shaz well done you!And thank you so much for the smilies, those red x's were driving me potty!!
Hope you are all having a lovely Sunday.
Special hugs to Weezl and fergus!

When I needed a really big saucepan t'other day for something I used my wok - 'twas plenty of room in that.
Oh well...back to drawing board for today's hope of free food - I've realised theres a couple of cooking apple trees near to me recently. Visited one a few weeks ago - and realised there was a man diving over to take some as well from same tree. Went to t'other tree today hoping for some to dry and eat over the next coupla weeks - and blow me..the same man was already there picking up the windfalls.....reason for not feeling too happy with that being that in between these 2 visits I'd spotted him:
- driving off in a car
- from a parking space thats there for our visitors
You'd understand if you knew just how urban my area is - ie no-one living here actually needs a car (so he's obviously got enough money to run one just because he wants one) and he was saving himself a carparking fee at the expense of one of our visitors being able to park.
Urban foraging certainly has its difficulties I'm finding - theres notta lot around and when one finds what is obviously a reasonable source of supply of something.....so have a lot of other people obviously...so theres very little left. I am also finding that the various little wilder nooks and crannies and odd bits of land are being built-on as well - so quite a few of them have vanished. Think I'm going to have to go in for a contradiction in terms - ie trying to grow some wild food in containers in my little back garden...at leastways I was told they'd be less fussy about care and maintenance than many conventional garden plants....obvious really I guess...as they have to "look after themselves" in the wild.
So - back to the kitchen then....and the precisely 3 apples that were left for me to pick up!!!(wouldnt be quite so........(delete as applicable)....if I wasnt watching my already low salary "hanging on by the skin of its teeth" and wondering if my income is going to get even lower or no....time will tell..)
I tend to feel a bit of "wages" from Mother Nature wouldnt be inappropriate too - as I do my share of caring for various odd bits of land near me - removing rubbish and keeping them looking tidy......hmmm...theres a thought....anyone wanting to forage putting in a bit of "housekeeping" to pay back Mother Nature! Sounds fair to me......0
