My contract with Flogas runs out in early May. At the end of February I negotiated a new three year contract with a (not particularly good) price of 51.02ppl fixed for two years. I signed it on the 25th February and Flogas signed on March 1st. They are now saying they will not honour this contract and are offering me 60.03ppl fixed for just 6 months on a one year contract. Can they just wriggle out of a signed contract like this?
That's outrageous! Clearly they *shouldn't* be able to wriggle out of it - but whether there's anything you can do about it is a different matter I suppose 🙄

I signed up to a fixed deal back in August 20, at 38p year 2, which I am in now, in Jan 21, I had a letter saying there was a surcharge to add, pushing it up to 44p.  I had a top up delivered a few weeks ago, when I queried the price on the invoice, I was told that all fixed deals had been cancelled with immediate affect and customers were now been charged the variable rate.  I had received no notification of the change, the company just sent me a copy of a letter that was being sent to customers that day, even though my delivery was in the previous week.  The other thing that I felt was particularly sneaky was, they didn’t even put the price per litre on the invoice, probably hoping that I would just pay it.

my contract does have a clause in it that says they can adjust the price if it goes over a certain %age of whatever the wholesale price is. They did say if prices come down they will pass it on.  As we all know, there is no way we the public can track the price on the wholesale market. I’m with a small independent and I guess they are trying to survive.  I paid 53p a litre. I would have expected at least a phone call or email before they came out to tell me about the price hike.

So the hunt will begin in the summer for a new contract, dreading what the prices will be like.

Had a delivery from Flogas after agreeing a 2 year fix at 42p a month or two ago.  Have been invoiced at 42p, but they added a £50+vat Market Volatility Surcharge.  This equates to an extra 6p a litre.  Just querying this with them at the moment.

Whatever it says in the small print of my contract, I will probably just have to suck it up and be glad I won't need any more gas till the summer.

I got a top up about one month ago @ 40p per litre with my contract having 18mounths left & no surcharge.
But where did the get an exacted £50 + vat from. If there is an increase it would be a certain amount. I wont be filling up until around October, But will certainly fight it. They cant advertise a fixed price & then come out with BS small print to get more money out of you. I have lots of spare time & will fight it with everything.
Please post back with where it says this in the terms & conditions.

The very pleasant girl at Flogas couldn't understand the surcharge - as, she emphasised, I am in contract.  Went away and said there was an error and that surcharges should only be made if out of contract.  Happy days.

I had a letter off Flogas on 9/3/22 saying they were putting my 40p / litre up to 60p /litre and also adding a £50 delivery surcharge to every order. I was out of contract, with 40p being the rate at the end of my contract. Luckily, I'd just signed a new contract on 3/3/22 and I suspect the letters had crossed in the post. I've not ordered any gas since but will make sure I check the price charged when I do!

    Hi there,

We are about to move into a property in a few weeks which is on LPG (tank). The tank is 70% full and we are being advised from the agents that the arrangements are with Calor. There agents have advised there is £500 debit on the account which will be transferred to us. It's not an actual debit but rather the previous tenants were paying by direct debit (on a pay as you use basis).

Does this sound right to people? I've had conflicting advice - the agents are telling me I need to get the account transferred into our names, other people just saying to leave it until the tank is lower as we have no contract with Calor (but I can't believe this is the case!).

    Presumably our options are either:

    1). To transfer the account to us (and check with Calor what the price is for usage) but sign no contract and re-evaluate when the tank is lower;
2). To enter a contract with Calor (depending on the price)
3). To explore prices with other LPG suppliers and arrange a transfer away from Calor.

Does that sound right - and any thoughts on what we should do?

I certainly wouldn't agree to take on the previous tenant's debts.
And it will be for the previous tenant to terminate their contract, and for you to set up a new one.

Yes agreed. I'm not sure why the agent has called it a debt (because it's not money they owe to Calor). Either way I shan't be transferring their account into our name. I'm going to ring around suppliers and see what I can find by way of a best price.

LPG-Save offered 50p per litre today (+VAT 5%) with Flogas but only fixed for 12 months - variable year 2 with a cap of 12p per litre (so 62p per litre). There's then a £60pa tank rental.

I'm going to contact them and see whether they can do something fixed over 24 months (I'd like to avoid 2nd year variable).

Plus contact others in our area (Gloucestershire) - Flogas directly, Calor, Avanti and Callow Gas.
It looks like JGas may also supply but think I'll start with the above based on comments.

    And will also make sure:

    - Avoid auto-top up / budget account
    - Manage account through the website
    - In the future pay on delivery (rather than direct debit each month).
    - Read contract!

    Any other thoughts much appreciated.
