With the prices that you have there, Flogas would be my choice. The Calor quote allows a 14p increase in year 2 and Avanti 12p.  If your usage was similar across both years then you would be £840 with Flogas for 2 years - £1680 or Calor would be £780 for year 1 and £960 for year 2 which would be £1740.  However based on the size of your tank and your usage profile, you could get a fill from calor at 39p just before your second year increases kick-in and effectively get the majority of your gas at the 39p level.
I'm thinking of chancing with Calor and seeing if it prompts Flogas to improve their offer. The tank transfer process seems to prompt some action.
Emailed Flogas back saying Calor was cheaper. They've improved there offer to 41ppl fixed for 2yrs.
Its a 12% rise over my previous rate 2 year rate 36.3ppl, which you could say is 6% rise per year.
I'll wait a couple of days to see if JGas come back to me. Probably stay with Flogas just for the cost certainty and the hassle of changing.

All my recent contracts (Avanti, Flogas) included a clause permitting unlimited price rises caused by increases in the price of gas .. or would have, if I had not carefully deleted them.
    @JerryW

Did you simply delete the lines, I have agreed a fixed price contract with Avanti for 2 years at 32ppl (they originally were more than this to renew, but after getting Flogas to quote at 33ppl, they were willing to beat it to retain me - c.4500 litres p.a.), which seems to intimate that they can change the price (even on a fixed rate).  They told me over the phone that they won't change a fixed price, but I have enough experience of the LPG industry to realise that they will try anything to increase you that they can.

    Cheers

    Indeed I did.

In the first place, if you are going to sign any contract you should be as happy as possible with it. Cross out anything you consider unfair before you sign. This is when you have your maximum bargaining power, because if it makes them unhappy, you can still go elsewhere, or at least negotiate. Once you sign, that is it.

Either party to any contract can breach the contract; and we have seen cases here recently where the supplier has brazenly broken the contract terms. You can then go elsewhere, and what is more you can also sue them, assuming you have suffered a calculable loss; and moreover you will have a cast iron case - you will have to be keen, and reasonably astute, and willing to engage with the small claims court. They will bet on you not being that determined... but it is an interesting hobby, if you have the time.

These days we are so attuned to being featherbedded: if you don't like it just send it back .. free returns ... government price cap .. that sort of thing, we are no longer equipped to deal with a proper commercial marketplace, which is what this is. But it can be quite fun..

If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..

I'm going to delete them also, as there is no justification to have price increase clauses in a fixed price contract.

Will let everyone know how they respond in due course
  • I can't find anything better then 41ppl fixed from 2 years with Flogas. I use ~1600 litres per year, so not a large user (small semi- detached house). Unless anyone thinks better, I'll push the button with them on Friday.

I assume you have a quote from LPGSave, who seem to have a way with Flogas?

Yes- they just seem to be an extension of the flogas sales team. When I said I'd been offered 41ppl they went away and then came back and said they couldn't beat it.
No price ever came back from JGas.

If you are only using 1600l/year then why not as suggested in a previous post fill your tank at the end of the first year and then you will have no need to fill in the 2nd year which means that Calor and Avanti are both cheaper, I've been with Flogas, Calor and Avanti and Flogas is the only one that I would not go back to

The standard tank usually supplied is 1200 litres.  This will take a 1000 litre fill.  There are 2000 litre tanks available, but these are the exception, rather the rule.  I know because I used to have one!

Even using a 1000l tank an LPG customer should be able to buy at least 2500l in the first year, I have a 2000l tank and I assumed that 2000l was the standard, I usually have 3 fills in the first year and 1 in the 2nd year
