I currently pay 33ppl for LPG.  That works out at 5.5p/kWh, using the Notts Energy data Energy Cost Comparison – Nottingham Energy Partnership (nottenergy.com)

I find that article rather strange in that it states that LPG has a lower energy conent than Propane or Butane when the vast majority of LPG is provided using a combination of these two gasses.
    Yes, I agree.

I can't seem to find a definitive answer.  I don't know if the propane/butane mix varies depending on which refinery it comes from.

UN1978 is just Propane ie not mixed so if your firm is selling you LPG then it should just be Propane.
UN1965 is mix, I would look at the tanker to see what its bringing.

    Ah, like this

That makes it Propane at 7.07kWh/litre, so still works out about 5.5p/kWh

  • Update on supplier Switch
This is the first time I have changed supplier of LPG and is straight forward if you are aware of LPG tank compliance which I am now. The delay I had was in tank compliance coupled with my tree surgeon just not turning up or answering the telephone or emails.

I had to remove 3 trees which had grown over the past 23 years and branches were overhanging the LPG tank. Fortunately my new team was able to do this in 1 day when they could fit me in and the weather allowed them to do the work.

As a reminder Calor put the price exc vat up 9p to 51p my new supplier quoted 40p fixed for 2 years!

Well it looks like the recent gas price increases have finally hit the LPG market.

I've just filled up (1000 litres) at 38ppl, that's 5ppl more than earlier in the year.

That works out at 6.3p/kWh, which I suppose is still a lot better than the current wholesale prices!

At least I don't have to pay a daily service charge!

Do HBS not charge you to rent their tank from them? Ive heard of another independent that does similar.
    Rare though.

No, they don't.  I also do not have a fixed term contract with them.

As you know the exclusivity period is the 2 years ie the bit where you cant switch. After that all agreements become in effect rolling contracts (ie its still their tank and only they can fill) but your free to switch if you want. Mostly at this stage LPG firms would put you on a variable rate.

Confused now. Is it their tank, or yours?
