  • Thanks bobmac62 - I'm with Avanti Gas and they've just put their prices up by 6.30p a litre to 50p litre, time for me to switch !
  • Oddly enough i went to Flogas & was quoted 37p & a 6p increase in any 6 months after a year. I then contacted switch@lpg-save.co.uk & they said we can do 36p a year with a 4p increase. All i had to do was send them some details on my tank which is around 6 years old & originally from Calor & they signed me up. To my surprise, they signed me up with Flogas at the rates they quoted.
  • So having read some of these posts, looks like we're being completely ripped off. I have recently been informed by Flogas that our 12 month fixed price has expired and that now we are committed to another 12 months of variable price. The initiation of this contract was on the basis of a phone call where the conditions of the contract were not made clear. We were paying 49ppl and it has just gone up to 57ppl!!! This feels very exploitative and apparently we have to keep with this contract for at least another nine months.
  • Confront them & ask why you are paying 45% more than most flogas customers @36p & tell them you want to take it up with the Ofgem Ombudsman. They don't want to go down this route.

Read your contract carefully and in detail. There should be a limit as to how much they can increase the price, maybe 3ppl every 6 months. They cheat and lie to get around it, you have to be direct and strong. Read other posts, there’s lots of advice and help.

Well, yes, you are being exploited but you are not alone, the majority of Flogas/Avanti/Calor customers are in the same boat. But there is a lot you can do:

    - read some of the last few pages here about what prices should be, and what others have done. Avanti tried to increase my price but when I held them to their contract they backed down, and cancelled it
    - read the contract, line by line. You signed it! But you can make sure they keep to it as well. Avanti say that increases over 3p/l will be referenced by evidence of prices generally, but they can never provide it so are more or less forced to back down.

    - politely complain, in writing, and if you get no satisfaction, write to the Chief Executive in person.

Nobody should pay more than 40p/litre. If you are, it is probably your fault .. so do something about it!

If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..

I've never used a blog site in my life but thought it might be useful to share a recent experience with a problem on lpg bulk pricing.
In the second year of my contract I received a price increase of 8.04 pence per litre in March, followed by a further increase of 6.3 pence per litre in October. I queried this with Avanti who claimed a part of both increases was due to an increase in their overheads (although they claimed to have made economies) in addition to the increase in the lpg cost. They would not move on the complaint.
I followed the correct procedures & reported Avanti to UtilitiesADR. LPG is not covered by Ofgem.
A gentleman from Avanti's complaints department contacted me & I now have a price of 38 pence per litre as opposed to 46.34 pence per litre!

What’s the best deal currently for a 2 year fixed price with Calor?
  • Thanks Jerry,

In my favour, I didn't actually sign a contract! it was rather assumed on the basis of a phone call, that I have since listened to and their 'contract' is dubious at best. They did subsequently send me an email and paper copy, neither of which I actively confirmed. So hopefully that will stand me in better stead. I will certainly get into the small print and legalities.
  • Calor quoted me 35p fixed for 2 years but always be wary that "fixed" does not always mean fixed as we know it...
