    Hi Sdarbin

I too have found this a very useful forum; lpg is not a straightforward issue for most of us.
    A little advice:
I am not a fan of Flogas, if that is who you are referring to. Whereabouts are you? Look all through this thread for information about comparison sites and make sure you end up with the right supplier.
Are you certain your tank is fully compliant with current regs? Many are not. When I tried to move from Calor the new supplier sent an engineer to examine the installation and he said it was the most non-compliant tank he'd ever seen :-) - so effectively I could not move supplier.
But I made an appointment with a Calor salesman had a go at them, and eventually renewed the contract with them at a much reduced price and also they have replaced the tank, moved it to a compliant position, and replaced all the pipework, most of it underground, from there to the house. All at their expense, no cost to me.
I must say I think Calor are actually very good and quite honest (unlike Flogas), provided only that you keep well on top of the price. See the new contract is clear about increases during its term, about the standing charges, and about any cash back deals involved.
If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..
  • thanks for that.... i will follow your advice

mon plaisir. If you say whereabouts you are and what offers you've got, you will get more help. Limagas have had good reports but won't go as far as me, in Kent. Fisrst step is to pick anyone and get them to say the tank is ok to supply to

I live in Berkshire (near Newbury). I changed from Calor Gas to Lima Gas in November 2014. From memory, Calor Gas were charging me something like 54p/litre for bulk storage LPG. Lima Gas charged me 37p/litre for my first fill-up in November. A fill-up from Lima Gas today (31 January 2015) would cost me 32p/litre.

The Lima Gas LPG price tracker reduced the price per litre for bulk storage LPG to 34p in December 2014, and 32p in January 2015.

I found Lima Gas very pleasant and helpful to deal with. It's worth checking if they deliver to your area, and giving them a call if they do.
  • Well I have learnt a few things this last week. The most important of these is never negotiate from a position of weakness.
Knowledge is power, and never try and get a new contract when you are very low on gas and its very cold outside.
However, saying that Calor Gas has now offered me a very good deal at 38p a litre and filled my tank up today, which I have to say was a real relief as we were rationing ourselves to the central heating being on for just 2 hours a day in the evenings. With the gauge on empty it was only a matter of time before it stopped completely.
I have to say a big thank you to this forum as without it we would be cold, poorer and very very P***** off.
    Thank you all

So Calor had you over a barrel (or an empty gas tank to be more precise)! I'm glad you're pleased with 38p/litre, but I expect you would be even more pleased with 32p/litre :)

I was with Calor Gas for almost 30 years, and whilst their service is good, I do believe they operate an unfair pricing policy. They appear to run a 'charge whatever we can get away with' pricing system. There seem to be so many different tariffs that customers can be on, with some people paying much more for their LPG than others.

Certainly if you are shrewd enough to phone up and challenge Calor's prices, they will generally offer a small reduction, but should the onus always be on the customer to fight for a fair price?

One of the features that attracted me to Lima Gas was that they are completely upfront about their LPG prices, and everyone pays the same price per litre. And at 32p/litre, they certainly seem competitive.

I've only been with Lima Gas for 3 months, but I can't fault them at all.

I hope Calor doesn't buy them out!

  • I live in Lincolnshire and purchase my LPG through Woldlink Ltd they are part of an Agricultural purchasing group based in Louth.

They supply to domestic customers as well as agricultural

My last order placed on Monday was at 28.41 pence per litre and the most I paid last year was 32.75 ppl.

They use one of the major providers to deliver the LPG and you are required to sign up to a standard two year contract. The main difference is that you pay for your fuel at point of order and not on a monthly basis. Yearly tank cost of £68.00 is the same as with most other suppliers.

I know they operate in Lincolnshire and have friends who use them in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire but not sure about other areas but might be worth checking.

Their contact number is 01507 605230

Thank you so much for this as I have been in contact with the guy at Woldlink and decided to go with them.

My contract with Avanti gas is due to expire later this month. Their renewal contract arrived a couple of weeks ago quoting £0.464p/L so no change from my current tariff. I use about 2500L/pa and pay £140/month which essentially means, that because my account is invariably in credit, I forward buy my gas. Not quite how I imagined a budget account should operate.

I've looked around and had various quotes ranging from 36p/L to Avanti's 46p/L. In fairness, when I called Avanti to query the cost, they readily reduced it to 38p/L but why didn't they quote that straight off? Had they done so, I might have just thought 'how nice of them' and just signed up.

I spoke with Woldlink yesterday and was quoted January's price of 25.41p/L and was told that February would probably see a reduction from that. Today, he had the Feb. price of 23.43p/L so really it was a no-brainer.

They use Flo-Gas to deliver and supply so can supply practically anywhere that Flo-gas operate (I'm in Bedfordshire). The 2 year contract is with Flo-Gas who adopt the tank. Ordering and payment (with order) is to Woldlink so no monthly budget account or direct debits to deal with, which at the price, suits me fine.

Hope this helps some of you and thanks again to this forum for continuing to save me money and keep me warm :T

    Quote from a Woldlink's page (http://www.woldlink.co.uk/special-offers/):

    Bulk and Bottled Gases

Woldlink supply a range of gasses including Propane, Butane, Oxygen, Acetylene, Argon and Migwelding gas.
Propane can be supplied in bulk to both Domestic and Commercial tanks with Woldlink offering very competitive spot pricing if you own the tank. If you’re under contract why not see if you’re eligible to transfer to our discounted Woldlink group rate?

My bold. Some years ago a forum user posted that they transferred their individual Flogas account to Mole Valley Farmers' Flogas account - and the price they paid to Flogas dropped from 45 to 30 ppl!

Worth exploring to see if Woldlink would do this too! 23.43 ppl ....and Flogas is still making a profit, presumably.
    ..
  • I'm fairly new to LPG, about 18 months into my first 2 year contract. I'm currently paying 51.5p with Calor in Fife. My 3 neighbours also seem to be with Calor.

Is there any point in trying to negotiate whilst still in contract?

Are there any bulk lpg comparison sites, or when changing supplier do you need to get individual quotes?

Yes, nothing ventured nothing gained. I negotiated with Calor last month while the then price was fixed until March 2015.

I would have thought that you were outside the initial fixed period which is generally for 1 year.

What I am finding is that unless you take the initiative to ask for a rate review Calor generaly does not offer a reduction.

There are no comparison sites, however, if you trawl through this thread you will get rates which are in the public domain, also post number 2388 HateLPG's graph will prove useful.
