Bulk LPG - Cheapest suppliers / supply route?

Hi Chaps,
I live in Mid Devon and bought a house with LPG tank in the garden.
I did a fair bit of ringoing round (Flogas, Calor etc.) and divided to go with Limagas on a variable tariff with no tank rental charge in year one (£60pa year two).
Best I got from Calor was 39ppl in year one, 42ppl year two with £150 free gas and £65pa tank charge.
Flogas was 36ppl year one, 39ppl year two £50 free gas, no tank charge.
I went with Limagas as they seemed the most straightforward and I'm well aware from reading this forum how unfixed a fixed tariff can be!
The price I paid for my first order was 32ppl and in my email exchange with Mark the sales exec he sent their tracker prices over the last year which is interesting.
Interestingly tracker has gone from 43ppl 12months ago to 40 in Oct, 37 Nov a34 in Dec and currently 32ppl, more than 95%(of their clients) are on tracker.
I hope this helps others!0 -

Just recieved bill after top up unit price 59.45 how does that compare to yours - I live in Fife, Scotland and supplier is J Gas.
I contacted J Gas and they said they are bringing my price down to 43p (it was 57.26p) so defo worth phoning them to get a better deal.0 -
I live in a group of six cottages, all converted from stables, in a very rural area. We have an LPG gas supply provided by Callow Gas in Droitwich, and each cottage is metered for the gas every quarter. My last bill was 49p per litre, down from 52p last winter.
Is this a decent price, or would anyone recommend I should try to haggle. Would all the residents be required to agree to change supplier? The present arrangement was made by the developer of the properties, who retains ownership of the land where the tank is situated."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
I have just received a re-newal quote of 39PPL ex VAT from CALLOW, down from 44PPL ex VAT for 2014.0

That is very interesting. Is that quote for buying in bulk? I appreciate that there will be a premium charged for billing me quarterly but I think a 25% loading is rather a lot."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. I would speak to the other users and get agreement to test the market. I would suggest that even as an average user you are paying 10ppl too much. If you are all using say 2500 ltr per annum then you should seek another few ppl discount. Good Luck.0 -

Welcome to the forum.
...your last price from Callow was 49ppl ....
To add a little bit to bobmac62's post [#2397] quoting a much better price (39ppl) from the same supplier, Callow, and macmullank's good advice [#2399] here's a link to what I posted last October [#2347] re metered estates: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=66794582&postcount=2347
LPG suppliers love metered estates: cash cows! And the start of each new 2yr contract, with a new owner or an existing one or even a tenant, resets the clock and locks everyone into the one supplier which owns the tank for another 2 yrs. You cannot move to a new supplier unless all are out of contract. BUT one or two posts are by people who have escaped. The key is to talk to everyone, get all the info from each contract (rate, rent for shared tank and facilities, method of paying, end of contract..and any other terms - best for everyone to bring a copy), discuss tactics and agree on a representative [see #221].
I suggest you tell Callow that Woldlink is charging individual users 28.41 ppl [#2841 Juliandicks] in Lincolnshire (and quoted 26.4 to thozza, [#2374])..and presumably making a profit ... and that you know the prices people across the UK are paying (send them a copy of HateLPG's latest chart [#2388] and give them the link) and that you are members of the bulk LPG forum on MSE. Maybe mention that Lister Gases - who would probably also supply you - have a tracker price today of 31.44 ppl (http://www.listergases.co.uk/anti.aspx) - maybe even ask Lister if they could shave a little off this very keen price as you are a 6 unit metered estate (did I mention that suppliers love metered estates?). You could also mention Lima Gas charging 32 ppl in Devon [#2394 joelaurence],and I have just paid Extra Fuel 34.51 ppl and they buy their LPG from Flogas who are subcontracted for deliveries in Cornwall (Extra Fuel have their own depot and tankers for delivery around their base in Manchester).
So far what I have suggested relies on Callow's good nature and agreeing to drop their price. Why should they?
There is no need to have a contract to be supplied with gas. You can still pay rent for the tank, and still pay for the LPG. So you could all go out of contract, refuse to sign another and after 2 years, or less, you'll be free. So you could offer to Callow to agree a new 2 yr contract with them for the 'estate' - so they get guaranteed volumes for another 2 years.
Finally (and only if they refuse to budge) you can say you are preparing a press release. This was successful with Flogas [#221], not noted for its benign practices while all the previous reports on this forum about Callow have been positive. Please, if you do write to the press, mention this forum so anyone reading the article/letter can find it. You could also mention that LPG prices from many suppliers have fallen very little despite the massive drop in the associated crude oil price (LPG is mostly a by-product of refining crude - it used to be regarded as an almost-valueless component of crude).
Please keep us posted.

I've just come off the phone to Callow Gas, and they readily agreed to reduce the price to 40p per litre, not just for me but for my neighbours as well.
I'm happy with that outcome."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

Well done. I would have pushed for more but that is just how I am (typical Scotsman)!!
Hope your neighbours are grateful of your efforts.0 -
I am new to the forum and have only recently learnt that I can change from my 20 years with calor gas. I contacted flowgas and they say I am in a contract with calor until march 2015. I have been paying 59p litr for as long as I can remember and without hesitation flow gas has offered 37p, a massive saving.
However I am nearly out of gas. Calor has twice been to the house with a lorry asking to fill up the tank. I asked for 100 ltres but they tell me they are not allowed to sell me that amount .... 700 litres or nothing. Clearly I am not willing to buy 700 at 59p when if I wait 2 months I can get it for 37p.
I am determined to not be blackmailed by calor and have stocked up on wood for the log burner. This forum may save me a substantial amount of money. Keep up the good work.0
