Redundancy Overpayment....What to do...
Hi there - I was made redundant at the beginning of Jul but fortunately qualified for a redundancy payment. This was paid within a few days of leaving work but the company forgot to deduct any tax or NI and have only just informed me of this error. What are my rights here? Am I liable to pay the tax / NI back (just over…

Voluntary redundancy question
Hi. First time poster but hoping you can help me. I have been with my company for 19 years. At first I loved it. Then we got outsourced and now i have manager about 200 miles away, never comes over to see us, and rarely speaks to us. I used to have quite a technical job but now it's pretty much data input which is fairly…

Tax code changed after last pay
Hi there, I was hoping someone could help me understand what's happened here. I've unfortunately been made redundant on the 20/07/2017 and I'm due to receive a weeks redundancy pay (£313.19), 3 weeks pay in lieu of notice (£939.58) plus of course the days worked up until the 20th (£939.58). This would mean £1,941.80…

Mortgage Protection Cover - When do you tell the mortgagfe lender?
Partner made redundant this week, I work but his salary covers half the mortgage and all the bills, so I am worried, it will be a struggle but with some jiggling long term it might be ok. The company he works for has said he will get a redundancy payment we shall wait and see. We do have a small bit of savings that will…

Redundancy ?
Hi all, I’m new to the forums and came across them when searching for advice. I have just lost my job after 3 years as the lady I work for is closing her company (its just the two of us there) She gave me 3 weeks notice. I have just received an email from her to say she has marked me as a leaver with HMRC and no mention of…

Redundant after 4 months - any tips?
I've been called on a meeting a couple of days ago and senior management from my company told me that, as they're downsizing, either I'd have to accept another position (and swap some salary for equity, as they wouldn't be able to afford me) or they'll have to let me go. Having thought about it I'll opt for the second (I'm…

Redundancy - Consultation & New Jobs on offer
Afternoon all :) I've asked about on this question but nobody seems quite sure. It looks like my job is to be made redundant. There seems to be no question over whether it's going to happen or not. It is! Anyway, I'm in the middle of a 30 day consultancy period at the moment which has just been extended by a week or so.…

Redundancy and SMP from HMRC?
Hi, looking for a bit of advice really. Basically I have worked for my company since 20th November 2017, and got made redundant due to insolvency of the business on 17th July. My baby is due 24th October meaning I was employed during my qualifying week (8th-14th July). I have rang the MAternity disputes team and they have…

How will my redundancy affect tax on a new job
I’m about to be made redundant, when I receive my payout I will be pushed into the 40% tax bracket and I’m unsure what this will mean for my next job. I’ll be moving into a job on around £25k a year and want to know if this means I’ll be paying 40% tax on everything above my personal allowance. Any help?

Child Benefit Payment
If you earn over £50k in a tax year you do not get the child benefit payment. However if in single year you are made redundant - if that redundancy payment puts you over the £50k would you be liable to pay benefits back/not be entitled for it following year or does it not count as 'income'

PENP Tax calculation on redundancy
There has been a new tax law brought in this year called PENP (Payments in lieu of notice). I've read a few tax blogs and read the HMRC guidance and it's still not clear. Basically I'm on a 6 month notice period due to redundancy, I've agreed with my employer I can leave after 3. I won't be getting paid for the last 3…

Company Sold
Hi, There’s a strong possibility that part of the company I work for is getting sold and everyone within that part will be transferring to the new company which is located around 7 miles away, however by public transport it would mean a 3 hour commute (both ways) per day. I’m just wondering what my options would be? as I…

Handing in notice at the end of new role trial period
Hi I was made redundant but applied for and was offered another role within the company. I have been trialling this role for 3 weeks and have one more to go but I am feeling out of my depth and feel that this role isn't for me. How do I go about informing my employer of this? Should I speak to someone informally now or do…

Am I entitled to pay in lieu if employer hasn't met notice conditions.
Looking for some advice or someone who can point me in the direction of advice. It's a bit of a complicated one! We have received formal notice…

Enhanced redundancy pay v owed holiday pay
A bit 'Locking the stable door after the horse has bolted', as I was made redundant in 1995, but any answers may benefit someone else in a similar position. As was the norm when I started with the company in 1968, you had to work for a year before accruing any holiday pay; if you wanted any leave before the year was up, it…
