John Lewis price increase
I have been looking at buying a soundbar and found one I quite liked at John Lewis but felt it was a little overpriced. I delayed buying, hoping for a price change. Well, there has been, it's increased £50. Being cynical, I expect that is so it can be reduced in a sale.

Cutting down on grocery shop
My average spending on groceries at Tesco is £300 a month. This is for me and my partner. This seems way too much. Was wandering How much other people spend on groceries and any advice on how to cut down. I like to eat healthier food which seems to be costing me a lot more. If anyone has any other advice on saving money as…

Small slow cooker and chicken breasts

I have a 1.5 litre slow cooker and put a chicken breast in there with some potatoes so its done when I get home and then I just steam some veg. However, my friend says I'm overcooking it as a…

Weekly Flylady Thread 25th May 2020
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the…

Silly question about a sewing pattern
Hello - figured this was the best place to post! I am wanting to dabble with dressmaking and see if I can do it, but I've fallen at the first hurdle of trying to work out from a pattern how much fabric I need! Sorry for the quality I've just chopped the image from the preview online, and the 60 and the partial measurement…

Overhaul of the way I deal with food
Hello, I've joined here in the hopes of changing how I manage the food in our home. I spend far too much on it, and waste a fair amount too. I really need to sort it all out. I would appreciate any advice on where to begin please. We need to be able to move house soon, as it's getting rather squeezed now. We don't have…

Will life not go back to pre-covid 19? Is o/s the new way forward?
I keep hearing that life is changed forever now and i have to admit I can’t quite accept it. Everyone i talk to is desperate for this to be over and for things to get “back to normal”, is it really not going to happen until (if) we find a vaccine? I now look at all the advice i picked up over the years here and where it…

The Home Front meets Covid-19
Hi! I
don’t know about you, but I’d like to try and find some sort of positive way of
dealing with The Great Shutdown. I hope there
are a few people out there who’ll join me. I mentioned it on the Wartime Substitutions thread and was told it might
be a runner. If I don’t get a response I’ll
know it wasn’t! DS
is high risk,…

Using up surplus milk
During the course of the lockdown I have been trying to shop once a week only (previously shopping as I pass 3 or 4 times per week) and seemed to have worked things our pretty well. This week it looks like we have too much milk for the 1st time, one extra bottle (4pints) that has 5 days left on it. I would prefer not to…
