How do you make tea?
Just curious to know how folk actually make their tea. Do you prewarm the pot / mugs / cups? Milk first / milk last? I'd always studiously pre-warmed the mug or pot with boiling water before brewing with boiled water but my tea was always a bit rough and bitter. Just recently decided to try filling the cold mug with…

Digital scales
My digital scales have become totally unreliable. At first I thought it was only when they needed new batteries. Now it's more or less all the time. I have tried cleaning the contacts and leaving them to 'air' for a day. They were fine - for about an hour. There's no warning that they are going to act up, so you have to…

Gluten Free Bread
My sister asked me to bake a gluten free bread for someone she knows. That was not a problem Today I was making some sourdough bread for myself, from my own starter, and it set me to wondering if those with a gluten allergy could tolerate sourdough bread. I appreciate it would have to be made from gluten free flour. I also…

Weekly Flylady Thread 22nd June 2020
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole…

iced coffee
I have become rather addicted to those iced coffees/drinks you can buy in the cans/cups. There are expensive so want to make my own. Just making a coffee milkshake with milk and coffee powder does not seem to work, has anyone found a close match to make these themselves? or know the secret? Thanks

Washing cubes from powder
Hi all! I buy washing powder in bulk in really big boxes, as we find it works out cheapest per wash. However, scooping the powder from the box into the machine drawer is getting to be a bit of a faff - spillages, probably using slightly more than I need to each time because of the inaccuracies of scooping etc. I was…

Where to buy sewing supplies and material online?
Hello, I normally buy my sewing supplies from a great market, but as it is over an hours drive away from me (and not yet open again) I am hoping that someone can recommend an online supplier for both material and sewing supplies (such as patter paper). Thanks in advance : )
