O/S Daily Monday 29 June 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS2 getting ready for work also, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, DS2 settled and happy.
Cloudy, grey and blustery start to the day, air is cool too.
Lunch yesterday was lovely roast beef, roasties, new potatoes, HG green beans, carrots, broad beans, broc, cauli in cheese sauce, peas, yorkshires and gravy, some LO's too. Tonight we're having pork fillet in a gravy sauce cooked in the slow cooker - I'll put that together shortly. We were quite lazy yesterday other than a little ride out to DH's grandad's to take his birthday gift - he's doing ok. Had a very near miss on the way back as there's a forest that you drive through and 2 deer ran out from the forest 1 in front of us and 1 behind us - I have no clue as to how we didn't hit it - hubby reacted very quickly and braked hard, think driving for a living and be so aware saved us - and someone looking down on us - there was a couple of motorcycles behind us and fortunately they managed to avoid a crash too. Hubby said he saw the motorcycles react quickly too possibly from seeing his brake lights come on so quickly and hard, motorcyclist had a passenger too so pleased they didn't crash - as that would have been very nasty.
I spent some time yesterday organizing the menu for the week and did some prep - so hopefully I'll get back into being a bit more efficient and not needing to buy too much during the week - really need to get the shopping bill down.
Back to work for me today but just this week, then I'm on leave for 2 weeks, as we should have been going on holiday on Saturday it was cancelled. So looking forward to some down time.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A totally horrible day here. Currently raining (again!) and the wind is still blowing. It looks more like autumn out there with leaves battered off the trees and petals off the flowers. It feels rather cool too.
For only the second time in over 3 months I am going out today! I am going with DD and eldest DGD to Boundary Mills as they are both in desperate need of new underwear and the M & S outlet beckons. Especially as they have 50% off a lot of stuff. I'm not really in need of anything but I do like a browse of all the lovely homeware stuff upstairs. I won't come away empty handed I never do! There is no trying on allowed, as with the majority of clothes retailers, and lots of precautions in place. A mask is going with me as it makes me feel a bit safer. I feel a bit apprehensive but I can't stay in solitary forever.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care one and all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. I'm glad you and DH, plus the motor cyclists behind you were all right after your encounter with the deer - what a shock it must have been. Its grey and windy here like yesterday, what a change from last week. I got some washing dry though. We went out for a walk yesterday afternoon, we don't seem to see as many people walking now. After lockdown started, we used to see a lot of people, usually couples, out walking;like us, whenever we went out.Just pottering about the house today, the front garden needs tidying, but I'm telling myself it's too windy to sweep up. Not too windy to weed though, but I'll probably find an excuse for not doing that either.WMF, the other day you commented on my sewing skills when I said I was going to make a jacket, it's actually a very easy no fasten style so won't be too testing I hope! I've never made one before, and I've sewed all my life. I don't think I'm any threat to the big couture houses!!Gers, hope you are recovering and have had no more problems.Hope everyone has a good Monday, take care folks14

Morning all.
Ouch nmlc! You must have felt pretty shaken up by that near miss. If it had been my family, that deer would have been hanging from the rafters of the garage by now. They are all partial to a bit of venison.
Cool and looking a bit uncertain weatherwise here too TA. Oooh, Boundary Mills. It's one of the places I only get to visit when I'm staying with my brother. We don't have them down here. Have fun.
I'm feeling a tad more energetic now that it's cooler. Don't get too excited. My energetic is most people's normal. The house could do with a bit of spit and polish. I might venture over to the Flyladies and see what they are up to. I usually avoid them like the plague, they frighten me to death. Oh for Samantha's twitchy nose, I could do with a bit of magic.
Apart from a bit of wafting about with a duster I will make myself a pretty mask, it looks as though they will be with us for some time to come so we may as well have a bit of fun with them.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Good morning from a very wet Glasgow.TA - enjoy your trip outside. I'm sure you'll have a fab time browsing and buying. Thanks SCARLETT.I'm still busy resting though when that turns into being lazy is debatable. 😀. I'm up for a walk but not in the rain as I'm a bit slow still and would get soaked just going round the block. The kitchen tap I wanted the other week came back into stock so I quickly ordered one from Screwfix. Once I get the 'collect' text I'll be taking back the second best one. The builder has my new oven in his workshop, the dishwasher is due to arrive on Wednesday, all I need then is a date for the work to be done. The search for the perfect mug goes on. Seems such a simple want! I found lovely straight white coffee cups from M&S Maxim range (to replace DM's 1960s cups) and hoped that the mugs would be the same though bigger. No such luck, the cups flare. It's so frustrating. 😤 I shall search on.My grab bag is coming together nicely now. All I need now is a folding toothbrush and a small shower puff thing. Can't find small ones anywhere, just those huge ones. I think that Bodyshop do them but they're not open here yet. A flannel will do for now. 😂
I hope that everyone is doing well, happy Monday to all.14 -
Morning all and thank you for starting us off nmlc. That near miss sounds scary, glad you are all ok, and the motorcyclists and the deer.
Quite cold here and overcast, plus a strong wind. The grass is covered in fallen leaves and I'll probably get those into a bag to rot down. I spent hours tidying the end of the garden yesterday, total waste of time with all the debris today but at least it was fresh air and exercise.
I need to order bird food today, it is running g very low and no fat balls left at all.
My few potatoes in the flower beds are doing well, there is room at the bottom of the garden but that bit is full of tree roots and shaded too so probably quite inhospitable for veg.
Other than that and avoiding the house jobs on my list, I have no plans.
At some point I'll have to go shopping, am in desperate need of underwear now. Not today though. I usually trudge off to the M&S outlet but it is the other side of town. I also need pjs but will wear holey ones for now.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning all, it's dry at present but shhh! just in case it rains.Mr Fix It had an unsettled night and consequently so did I and therefore I've been awake since 2am. I started worrying about things which are beyond my control so I finally gave up on sleep and got up at 4am. I've put the wm on, the bedding is already washed and on the line and now 2nd wash is doing it's thing. I've also put the DW on in between washes.DD and family are going back to school today and are a bit apprehensive of the new system. I know the DGC are anxious, so I hope today goes well for all of them.We are going to Dad's to deliver his shopping at 10.30am and will stop for a chat if he's up to it. This afternoon I shall trim Mr Fix It's beard and perhaps try to have a nana nap, if not it will be an early night. Before I retire though I want to clean the lounge carpet or rather Mr Fix It will wield the machine and I shall be on emptying and refilling it as usual. Why does he love an electrical gadget so much ? Pity he doesn't seem know how to use the WM or the DW.I shall try to get back to the dieting today. Too much comfort eating is not doing me any good and I feel I've fallen off the wagon and been run over by the wheelsNMLC glad you're all ok after your near miss.wmf happy to know that I'm not the only wanna be shop keeper !Hope everyone has a good day.Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11

Good morning everyone
Well what a change in the weather, we have woken up to the wind whipping through the trees and it's trying to rain. I am feeling happy about it as it feels a lot cooler so I am not going to dissolve into a sweaty puddle.
We have decided to deep clean and clear the kitchen and dining room as things are starting to pile up and need sorting out. I will be in charge of the dining room and Steve is going to do the kitchen. It will be a long and busy day but very worthwhile hopefully. It's amazing to me how things creep in and then you just start to ignore them until you are literally tripping over stuff. I will find some boxes so we can store some stuff ready for a car boot sale whenever they start up again.
We were supposed to have keema pie for dinner last night but Steve suggested an Indian takeaway and I am a complete sucker for Kashmiri curry, it was absolutely delicious too and I enjoyed every mouthful. Anyway the pie has been bumped to today so I will help prep all the veg later.
Monnagran, your thought for the day really tickled me, thank you for the laugh.
Right, a cup of tea has just appeared so I will drink that and then I will crack on. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all
Had mum over yesterday ordered her another under counter freezer to go where her DW was as she never uses it hasn't in 10 years or more and as i said to her with winter coming i don't want to be queueing in the cold and wet to get shopping she also asked me to get her a wiltshire foods brochure as her friends have it and are happy with it for some reason she always gets 3 loaves of bread and 6 yes that's right 6 2 pints of milk to put in her freezer I think she is frightened of running out so I will leave DH to un plumb the DW on Sunday whilst i take her for her MRI and then i will go next week to plug it in when it arrives.
Gers have you had a look on the selling pages as usually there are body shop at home reps that may be able to get you a puff
TA have a nice day out
Nmic how lovely to see the deer but not so close up glad you are ok bit of a shock though
Right better get the dog walked and rummage round the freezer for dinner ideas
Have a great day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini14 -
Morning All
Raining again but there are breaks in the clouds so maybe won't be as bad as yesterday, it was torrential all day.
I went to friends for dinner (more than the 5 mile limit but needs must!) and had a thoroughly good time. The folk are from South Africa and came over last Christmas to work here for a few years. They love it here and I can't see them going home any time soon. Dinner was roast lamb which I'm not keen on but I really enjoyed it. Rotten drive there and back in the rain but nice to be doing something normal.
I have a little school work to do this morning then I'm not sure what's happening, really need to do a bit of housework. I had an outside table delivered yesterday so if the weather cheers up I'll go out and put that together.
Have a good day everyone, take care. XX

Morning
Grief it's gone cold here today back to snuggle socks sweat shirt and jogging pants. Shorts in the wash for sometime hopefully not too distant future.
Like nan i was awake at ridiculous o'clock with overwhelming future worries. Had to get up as sleep was unreachable. Could well be a very early night tonight as Im shattered already. The most excitement I can muster today is living vicariously through mums amazon delivery of a new outside brush. Some little scrot stole hers last week and she was very upset as Dad had made it many years ago. Anyway hopefully her new one will pass muster
Chicken in the slow cooker was good last night with of course loads now to use in the coming days. Need to strip it all down so the bones can go back in for risotto stock. Tonight will likely be a curry
Nothing else on the books really just the usual
Have a good day all11
