O/S Daily Monday 1 June 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that watn/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunny start to the day again, warm already.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS2 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Yesterday lunch was roast lamb, roasties, HG new potatoes, carrots, swede, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy - it was delicious and only very small amount of LO's. Tonight will be clearing up as we have some bbq food left that needs using up. I have some new potatoes left so will cook those and the bbq food, salad etc maybe some couscous, pork pie, coleslaw etc.
Back to work today - at the moment because we're not customer facing we're able to go to work in casual clothes - it's going to seem very strange when we have to wear uniform again!
I'll water the garden and greenhouse before I leave for work this morning, everything is coming along nicely but my garden get's so hot in the afternoon, everything needs a good soaking in the morning.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Yet another glorious start I could live with this sort of weather. Must be my mediterranean ancestry!
Not a lot achieved yesterday but I did manage to uproot a few (well a lot) of weeds in the front garden before throwing the towel in and getting my feet up in the sunshine with my book. DS and his DP called with a couple of bits for me from Morrisons and we had a good natter sat apart in the back garden. She will be able to re-open her little jewellery and gift shop in two weeks but isn't expecting the customers to flock back in. It will be one in and one out until things change. She buys and sells gold as well and is expecting to perhaps be doing more buying than selling with times hard for a lot of people.
I did a lovely piece of gammon yesterday so plenty of that left. I will have some in a sandwich at lunch and more plated up with salad and squash fries at tea-time. I made my lentil and bacon soup with the stock so plenty of that now bagged up in the freezer.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Morning folks. To be sunny here but I think that may be our last day of sun for a while. For those south of the border, enjoy the new easing of restrictions. I think Wales and N Ireland’s restrictions have eased a bit today too (? maybe they were Friday ?).Defrosting the freezer ended up a marathon job as I’d left it too long. Very satisfying to see it now though.Off for dog walk in a minute then work. Picnic tea planned so I’m looking forward to that. Lots of easy eats.Have as good a day as possible x12

Good morning, another lovely morning here. Thanks for starting NMLC, it must feel odd going to work in casual clothes. We had a quiet weekend, bit of shopping, gardening, popped down to see DD on Saturday as it was her birthday. I just gave her money, she said she's going to buy a moisturiser she wanted from B*ots. She and dgd had made a cake and they carried it out to show us.We went out in the car yesterday afternoon to charge the battery a bit, and headed over towards west Durham, there are some lovely villages and of course the gardens are beautiful with all the sunshine we're having. It was a change anyway,We are planning a walk today and there's the usual household jobs.I texted the window cleaner on Friday and he's going to do our windows this week, they are so dusty looking. That means I'll have to do the insides - when I've done them I always think how nice they look, but I still don't like doing them!Taff those ant bait stations I put out last week worked wonders!! I had 2, and after 1 night the little so and so's disappeared. I know we'll have more eventually of course. Some of my containers were dry, as you said, it's hard to keep up with them it's been so warm (even here) and our back yard faces south so gets the full sun for a lot of the day.So, I hope everyone has a good day. Take care folks.13

Good morning, the light woke me so I got up at 4.30 so the washing is on the line. Yesterday I washed our duvet and that dried very quickly, today it is just the normal bedding.
~taff I haven't been composting recently but used to for many years. My current compost bin is nearly full though it will go down and I'll give it a turn this week. There is a mixture of greens and browns and yes, I did persuade OH to do the decent thing and provide me with some wee. I read somewhere years ago that manly wee is better for compost but am not sure why. Next door bought a shredder but hadn't enough room in his compost for all the shreddings so I benefited from that too.
Again no plans, I am going to enjoy the lovely sunshine while it lasts, we are forecast storms mid-week. The garden really needs drenching, I'm only watering things that really need it, like my fun with spuds area and herbs. Then if Nelski opens the Spa, I could join in perhaps.
Can't believe it is June, May seemed to go on forever. Have a good day everyone.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning peeps
It's not often I post this early, but the sun has got it's hat on again, so want to make the most of it .
We celebrate Mum's birthday yesterday, each sitting well apart in the garden, chatting , and having a laugh. She loves her air fryer , so will no doubt be helping her get used to it
TA I bet you feel so much better for seeing the family, I know I do .My 14 year old Niece is so anxious about the virus, that She's made herself quite poorly, bless her.We had a good chat though, n I think She felt better afterwards.
Not sure what's on the menu today, but quite fancy a pasta salad 😋
AOD I can't believe it's June either 😲😲
Anyway must get going, have fab days everyone, n huggles to any poorlies n peed offs today 😘xx"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Morning all.
Very quick visit this morning as No2 son is coming over with a friend to try to clear my garden a bit so that I can at least get some idea of what I can do with it. He is bringing my 7 year old DGD who is dying to see me as it will give my poor beleaguered DIL a chance to work in peace. She has been wfh since before the lockdown began. Actually the whole family has because they had what may have been Coronavirus right at the beginning of March and were told that they all had to self-isolate then.
Anyway, I have to sort out food, my kitchen only provides food for me, not a couple of men and a small girl with very adult tastes. I'm not sure if we are breaking any rules, but as everyone, apart from me, will be outside all day, I'm hoping not.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Be careful what you tolerate. You are teaching people how to treat you.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.12 -
Wow, June already! The time seems to be flying by, I always get a little anxious as it gets towards the longest day as I know it then starts to get towards the shortest!
I had a visitor yesterday - the lovely Gers brought her own coffee and we sat in the garden chatting for an hour, it was so good.
I'm having a bit of a slow morning, really must get the washing sorted and go and water the veggies, the poor things will be parched.
I managed to order some metal paint and am waiting for a text to let me know it's in then I can crack on with finishing the railings which will stop my neighbour asking about it, he told me yesterday that if I had done it all properly I would have taken a blow torch to the railings to remove the paint. Well, if he wanted he could have done it himself!
Lovely to hear of you all meeting up with your friends and family, thank goodness for the good weather.
Take care. XX

Morning all
Another bright sunny day here with a good breeze though we are due rain Wednesday afternoon and then its set to cool slightly but still be nice long may it last !!
When we were in Greece we had some beer called Radler which is a beer shandy made with really lemony lemonade we found it once here in Lidl and have not been able to find it since so I have a load of lemons and im going to make some old fashioned lemonade and mix that with beer and see if it works !! if the lemonade is nice I shall bring some to Nels cocktail bar spa for us to mix in our gin the afternoon !
Usual here today bit of housework / gardening then maybe a visit to another small garden center that have been advertising on the FB pages TBH I think its more of someone selling plants from their garden but they seem really good value so I shall go and have a look. Then a bike ride this afternoon.
Either filled pasta or bbq for dinner will see what we fancy, yesterday I peeled and diced sweet potatoes and roasted them in the oven with onions and garlic till they kind of caramilised they were really tasty so I shall do them again.
Have good days all and take care xx12 -
Morning
Momentous day for me my bestie is coming round for a garden chat. Im happy that for all these weeks I can honestly say no rules were broken at all unlike many but i still worry that a lot will take this easing up as freedom to have everyone round as normal in and out of the house and forgetting the basics.. my neighbours for example ....mind you somehow the rules have never applied to them so won't be going anywhere near them...not that I would want too! Anyway it will be lovely to see her and enjoy some socially distanced human contact
Spa will of course be open as long as this lovely weather hangs around so come on down AOD we have some special lemon gin courtesy of Ruby on the specials menu
Have a lovely day all and hope everyone enjoys those visits from friends and family x12 -
Monna, You're not breaking any rules, you could have up to 5 visitors in your garden so long as you social distance.
Redruby and Nelski, google the recipe for a cocktail called Shaky Pete's Ginger Brew. It's a mix of gin, ginger syrup, lemons and London Pride ale, it sounds odd but people rave about it. Chris makes it at Christmas every year.
After feeling a bit pants yesterday I feel OK again. We have the plumber coming back some time this week to try to fix the hot water tank. It's a complicated, pressurised thing and if he can't fix it replacing it will cost about £3,000. Keep everything crossed he manages, I really don't want to have to shell out that sort of money at the moment.
Aaargh, Laura has just sent us a whatsapp video which shows that there is some sort of problem with the newly refurbished bathroom in the Yorkshire house, there seems to be a water leak from somewhere but as we had a new roof 2 years ago goodness only knows what is happening. I think I might go back to bed!11
