Getting it together
Hello, So I've been having a read through some diaries on here and on the MFW board, and they've really motivated me to get my finances under control. I've got a small family of three, and I'd really like to buy a house in a nice area and be financially sound by the time DS is in highschool (about 6 years away). I'm…

Trying again...
I had a diary on here before but I'm desperate for a fresh start. I managed to clear almost all of my debt and looking at the progress I had made is making me feel really guilty because now, a year on from being so close to debt freedom, I'm back to square one. £13,421.77 to be exact. How did I let things get back to here?…

The first glimpses of light at the end of CC Debt Tunnel
My debt today is down to £17.8k thanks to additional funds returned from an aborted motorcycle ride to Malaga, and some servicing plan costs from returned from my motorcycle dealer. Projecting forward, I'm estimating Jul-21 as my last credit card payment - that about 9 months away and it'll be a big fat card cutting party…

The moment that I have been dreading for ages has finally been and gone.... I turned 30!!!! So as I do with every birthday, but ten fold with this one, I start having deep and meaningful conversations (with myself) about where I am in life, where I want to be, etc, etc, etc. So in between eating the profiterole tower that…

Gambling nearly broke me(and my finances)
I’ve suffered with gambling addiction for years with long periods of not gambling at all and equally long periods of gambling a lot! Early 2018 I had a particularly bad binge and clocked up extra £30k debt almost overnight, when I received my credit card statements the following month I sobbed! It was the most awful…

Taking back control of my finances
Hi Everyone, I wanted to come on and start a debt free diary, and take some control over my finances rather than the other way around. I work in Finance and although I earn well, I also spend it very well too. I'm fantastic with preparing and analysing budgets, sticking to my own however is a completely different story. My…

Finally becoming debt free after nearly 20 years
I’m starting a diary to try to keep myself accountable as I near the end of paying off debt and I’m terrified about slipping back into debt again. I’ve found reading other people’s journeys motivational and hope that writing my own will help me too. I’ve had various levels of debt since my first credit card with a £200…

Paying my car debt off...
Hi All I used to be a regular here in the forums when I first decided to pay my debts off. My circumstances have changed since those days, my DD has left home so it's just me and the cat in my rented property. I have paid my debts and was debt free for a couple of years. However, in July after months of toying with the…

Feast or famine
New user name but old forumite (just had my 10 year badge); I feel the need to confess without outing myself! My situation - me and OH, in our 40s, no kids, lots of cats, big fall-y down house with a bit of land in need of total refurbishment, trying to live the simple life but just living the expensive life instead! Both…

I’ll probably waffle a lot so sorry if you get bored but I like to talk and quite a lot has happened during my journey….. So, like others on here, this is my…

No way out of debt
Please help, I am feeling really really lost and overwhelmed. I made some really bad mistakes 6/7 years ago and I’m in such a mess as I buried my head about it. I have around £22,000 in unsecured debts, all with defaults. I earn £1200 a month and have a spare £37 a month after I’ve paid for my basics such as bills,…
