Interesting snippet I saw today.

Add another BTL now or wait after April rush?
I would be interested in peoples views, I appreciate it's crystal ball stuff! So, buy now or wait until things settle down and cough up the 3% stamp duty in the hope that more 1 and 2 beds flats come on the market. I've noticed most of the flats available come tenanted so maybe being an existing landlord could put me in a…

Japanese bonds turn negative
Which, apparently means that investors are paying to hold government debt. Is this significant? Apparently it's the first time this has ever happened to a G7 nation. https://twitter.com/JavierBlas2/status/696968649148669952

Owner Occupiers > BTL Landlord
Is there anyway the government can bring in new legislation to ensure that OO are given preferential treatment over private landlords when bidding for a property? I appreciate we live in an open market and the new tax laws for Landlords hopefully will make things a little more difficult for Landlords to add to their…

Bought at the worst time?
Hi all, I'm feeling that my house purchase hasn't really paid off much at all and really envy the people that bought in the 5 years before me and kicking myself for wasting money renting for years before (was in temporary employment and didn't think I could get a mortgage + unsure if moving area). Basically, looking at…

FTSE100 to break through the 7000 barrier?
"The FTSE100 has touched 6,877.5 points today, taking it just 73.1 points short of its all-time high set on the very last trading day of 1999!" It will be interesting to see the FTSE100 reach its peak at a time of EU Deflation and the continued turmoil from the global downturn.

Another new tax on housing for hard working families
Well that is the GD headline out the way. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-35515993 In reality those who earn above average and have subsidised council housing will lose some of the subsidy - Ie taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Labour of course are against, they prefer tax payers on below average income…

How can anyone born in the 90s purchase a property?
I was born in the mid-80's. I have saved £70k for a deposit and have a £30k salary. As far as I'm aware lenders tend to lend up to 4.5x salary, which means I can afford a property up to £200,00. I am from Guildford, Surrey which is a ruddy expensive town. There is not much variety within a 20mile radius. The only options…

BTL Returns
In light of some of the discussion we've had I thought it might be interesting to look at BTL through a few lenses: 1. Yield: Annual rent divided by current property price 2. Stamp duty: how many weeks rent does it take to pay off the stamp duty at the new rate? (SDLT calculator here). 3. Net profit at a 85% and 50% LTV…

Rents, as predicted, on the up
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/property/news/12129202/Property-prices-rise-across-the-UK-as-demand-oustrips-supply.html "Private rents grew 2.5pc in the year to December, with London up 3.9pc" If that's what happens before BTL properties are removed from the rental market, GOK what will happen when that does start to…

Largest review of housing in 10 years
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/constructionandproperty/12138852/Government-launches-biggest-housing-review-in-more-than-a-decade.html My question would be, should it really be a huge vested interest with shareholders to please heading up the review? Secondly, if you are going to have a housing review, why…

BP reports worst annual loss in at least 20 years and further job cuts
BP reported its worst annual loss in at least 20 years and thousands more job cuts as the British oil and gas company grappled with a collapse in oil prices. The energy company reported an annual loss of $6.5 billion for 2015, even worse than its 2010 results when it counted the costs of the deadly Gulf of Mexico oil…

the cost vs benefit of work
Mistermeaner has been v busy the last few weeks and was thinking today about the cost and benefits of all this business The most obvious cost is time, and possibly a bit of stress. Obvious benefit is getting paid and I think we all need some form of structure and challenge in our lives. More subtlety though I think there's…
