How interest rates affect property values
http://www.investopedia.com/articles/mortgages-real-estate/08/interest-rates-affect-property-values.asp I really struggle to understand why people on this forum are so against this concept. I thought it was pretty much classic economics but instead when I talk about it here I feel like I'm posting some crackpot internet…

Exponentially growing Savings/Capital v Income
If the savings rate is positive, which I think it is (by savings I don't just mean bank accounts I mean all the asset classes) And if there is a positive return on savings which there is or should be longer term. Would there not be an exponential growth in the stock of savings. Yes, right? Then would not those things…

Why no house price "bubble" in Burnley?
If low interest rates are making housing unaffordable for the young people, why hasn't there been a house price bubble in Bolton, Burnley, or Hanley, where interest rates are the same as in London?

Should the UK have Tax (and income) transparency
They have it in Norway: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35936521 Personally I don't see why it should be a secret and of course in terms of stopping tax avoidance and benefits cheating it would be a masterstroke. Note: Public poll

Yorkshire & Humber property market
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that property sales and prices are falling in this region (I'm in Hull)? We're waiting to buy but a little hesitant at the moment as house prices in our search bracket (250K - 300K) here seem to be stagnant, maybe even falling. The property we have our eye on is only 5% above it's…

Apocolypse predictions
As facts seem to be thin on the ground with the EU referendum, with both sides obviously telling porkies what are the things that will cause mayhem with the outcome? I've tried to compile a helpful roundup as things are and also added some more that seem equally appropriate, based on probably as much truth as the existing…

An Experiment in Basic Income

BTL/Second Home Stamp Duty
Just wondering really why the 3% charge was set at £40k rather than closer to £125k. Just in order to raise more tax or another reason?

Australia cuts interest rates
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-36189247 More boom time ahead for Australian house prices I'm afraid Generali. But remember, this forum says that lower interest rates are better for you because something something monthly affordability something. Remember to not buy so many iPads.

First Time Buyer Deposit - interesting info...
In my email I get from the Money Charity, this month there is this nugget that I thought was interesting: "It would take 37 years for someone on the average salary, saving the average amount per household every year in an average instant access savings account, to afford the average first-time buyer deposit" wow!

REcession and tools to combat it...
Hi All I'm reading more and more about another recession about to arrive. If this is the case will it be a bigger problem than before since the tool of choice - interest rates, has already been maxed out and can't really go any lower to be of help???
