Will nobody think of the landlords?

    Oh the humanity.

    I know.

I can't believe I live in a world where someone can write this sort of thing without blinking:
New, tighter lending criteria set to be enforced as early as this autumn by the Bank of England will lock large groups of savers out Britain's rental market, and limit it to an elite club of wealthy investors only.

!!!!!!. All you have to do to sway opinion to your side, regardless of how nonsensical your point is, is mention the elite or the 1% and suddenly you're campaigning for social justice.

Wonder how many real "savers" are gagging for BTL mortgages though?

I am shocked, shocked, that a bank should make a commercial decision to lock a lot of very rich people out of an investment that is increasingly looking like a very bad one so that only extremely rich people can continue to get into that market.

But won't someone think of the poor tenants. Before BTL became dinner conversation they were living under bridges, making soup from moss and stones. This tax will return them to the dark times.

Property has increasingly made the middle classes wealthy over the last few decades.

No wonder the regulators are getting concerned. The middle-classes should stick to what they're good at - being nicely immobile tax payers.

Maybe this is the end of BTL (for about the fifth time) but it's looking certain that future gains and losses will be to the benefit / detriment of a smaller wealthier part of the population. Not sure if that's good or bad for the economy, housing market or tenants or whether it makes no difference.

The problem is you don't own enough houses. You should buy more.

I think it's a rich persons game TBH where property exposure helps diversify a much larger portfolio of assets. This view has ensured I'll be working somewhat longer than those who took the opposite view.
