Transferring VHSC camcorder tapes to pc using Dazzle
I've just bought a new computer with Windows 7. I have a Dazzle DVC170 Crossbar video creator which I bought years ago and never bothered to use. I have loads of VHSC tapes and wanted to put them on my new pc, however I have downloaded the software (from original discs) that came with Dazzle and it keeps asking for…

Badly-rendered punctuation on bulletin boards?
Can anyone explain why some bulletin boards don't translate punctuation characters, and some do? For instance, from Gumtree; adverts including "/" come out OK, whereas; Piano For Sale For £75 becomes Piano For Sale For £75 and PIANO FOR SALE - good condition, regularly tuned, "Lestel" make. becomes PIANO FOR SALE - good…

Major laptop problems and can't start in safe mode!
Some help required please! My daughter's Acer laptop was infected with fake "Win 7 anti-spyware". I managed to remove it by downloading an antispyware removal tool from my laptop onto disc and running it on her laptop, as Microsoft Security Essentials couldn't run on hers. Anyway, once I got rid of it and restarted the…

For the last few weeks Firefox has intermittently been hanging up on me and displaying "Not Responding" at the top of the screen. This lasts for anything between 5 and 30 seconds and then everything is back to normal again. Any ideas or suggestions please? I'm running Firefox 3.6.17 and Vista 6.0 SP2.

Has Google hijacked my PC?
an odd thing has happened today. I turned my PC on and the browser looked slightly different and there was an icon on my desktop for Google Chrome. I didn't download this, but I have had my PC at my friends house today and used her BT wireless connection. I didn't particulrly want Chrome, so I uninstalled it and now, none…

Best Value camera on the market for £150-£200 for a guy
Hi all, I am looking to get the best camera for a guy for £150-200. It has to take good pictures, but I don't really care about video. I'd be more concerned about rubbish pictures when the target is moving, or if the light is different - bright and sunny to dark. I don't mind an SLR, but I am pretty rubbish when it comes…

Recommend me a compact digital camera for £150-£300.
I'm on the lookout for a decent compact camera. Some considerations: It's often going to be used in low light situations to capture action. Image quality is my primary concern. The largest lens and sensor within the constraint of being compact would be good. I can't carry a large or heavy camera. I won't have much time to…

Mobile phones - can you switch off web surfing?
I probably should be able to work this out, but I suspect one of you will know in a trice. DS (age 11) wants a new mobile phone. He has my old handset, which is just a phone, whereas he wants camera/MP3 etc. His granny wants a phone that is JUST a phone. So she will buy him a new (cheapish) phone, and have his. Now, as I…

Recommend me a laptop...
Current laptop (Acer 8371) is faulty, retailer gone under & have no more so probably going to end up with a refund. Requirements: <15" screen (ideally 13.3", would accept a 14", 8+ hour battery, <£400 (unless exceptional value), Dual core CPU (at least as fast as my SU9400, if not an i3), RAM unimportant (DDR3 would be…

When it prints out on the photo paper it prints the image very small - 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" (90mmx30mm). I can't seem to get it to print the whole photo on the 6x4…

Replacement battery for my HP laptop
I am getting a warning message on my laptop. Says "there is a problem with your battery, consider replacing it". I have had this laptop since 29 December 2009 ... so is 16 months an acceptable life for a battery? I almost always use the laptop plugged in, indeed this laptop has never been out of my home. I did a search on…
