Transferring VHSC camcorder tapes to pc using Dazzle

I've just bought a new computer with Windows 7. I have a Dazzle DVC170 Crossbar video creator which I bought years ago and never bothered to use.

I have loads of VHSC tapes and wanted to put them on my new pc, however I have downloaded the software (from original discs) that came with Dazzle and it keeps asking for drivers. I've googled and been to Pinnacle website but had no luck. I found some info on a forum that says it's not compatible with Windows 7 so what do I do now. Do I go and buy another similar video creator which will run on Windows 7, or is there software that I can download to do this?

I have the original camcorder and it was pretty easy with the leads that came with Dazzle but if I can't use this I'm stuck and have no idea what to do next.

I did have a look on PC World website but I can't find one that actually says compatible with Windows 7 64bit.

I'd really appreciate some help with this - thanks.

Edited to say I've just spotted this in PC World. Is this the same thing?

No need to buy anything, you just need the correct Driver for Windows 7. This is for the 32 bit version. Which version of Windows 7 do you have installed?

    Make and model of computer?

The Roxio Creator 2011 Pro is not suitable. The Roxio Easy VHS to DVD is closer. Generic version is cheaper.

Have no idea as to the quality and/or reliability of the aforementioned...and you may have the same problem if you have Windows 7 64bit.

That is your problem. If you have less than 4GB RAM in your PC and you have the option to install Windows 7 32 bit, you should consider it.

So you are a bit stuck...unless you have Windows 7 Ultimate or Professional. Then you can run Windows XP mode in Virtual PC.

    Look here

Here is a list of Pinnacle Software that does have compatibility with a 64 bit OS.

many thanks for the info. I've just had another idea actually. I have a laptop with Windows XP on it. If I installed Dazzle on that and put all the tapes onto it would it be easy to transfer them all onto my pc afterwards? I realise it would be a lot of large files but possibly this would be easier, otherwise it looks like i will have to buy a new Pinnacle/Dazzle video creator package for my pc. Didn't realise it was going to be so complicated :(

What end result do you want?

Do you want the tapes stored as files on your PC? or
Do you want to transfer them to DVD?

If the latter, wouldn't you be better off getting a DVD recorder, and plugging the camcorder in to that?

Yes, that would work; though of course the specification of the laptop is of importance.

    Make and model?

Didn't even think about this actually. The recordings are very bitty and I was going to try and edit them into decent videos without all the gaps in between. One birthday party video has about 4 gaps in it so I was going to edit them out. I just assumed that once they were on my pc as a video file I would be able to transfer them onto DVD's, but looks like that's not possible then? They definitely need editing and if I just transferred them as they are they will look a real mess.
