Downloads freezing

firefox freezing
when i open firefox (2.0.0.3), it freezes and i have to close it via task manager. i have rebooted the computer and it still freezes. i installed tightvnc and thought that would be the problem, so i uninstalled tightvnc and firefox still froze. i have windows xp and this has only started tonight. thanks in advance
