I have a Versatile Investment Plan with Standard Life for 10 years that was set up by my IFA 13 years ago as collateral for a drawdown facitlity. The drawdown is paid off…

FTSE Pessimism
So the FTSE is back at a level it was before the 08/09 crash. On the radio this morning was a pessimistic soul saying a mass crash worse than 2008 2009 is due "very soon". So why should there be a crash simply because it is back at original levels. Does this mean that 08/09 is the final ceiling value. Seems a bit pointless…

Freehold Income Authorised
Hi, I was researching property oeic funds and came across the Freehold Income Authorised Acc. I know holding freeholds directly can be quite lucrative but I was intrigued by this fund's performance and it seems to return a steady 4 to 6% and even during the crash it seemed to hold on pretty well. Would you consider this…

Standard life dividend
Have just received my SL dividend and am little disappointed. Does anyone know how it's calculated. I read in telegraph it was 12.8p per share on top of basic payout of 14.7p. Mine should come to £345.67 but I only got £284. Is it right to complain about a freebie?

Passive Investment Strategy Advice
Hello all, First time poster so please go easy on me! I've been reading a bit about passive investment and I'm looking to dip my toe into the water. I'm thinking of initially investing £2500 within a S+S ISA in HSBC index trackers in a rough ratio as follows: UK Bonds (30%): UK FTSE (30%): US (20%): Japan (20%) I will then…

Breaking a family trust
Sorry if this is off-topic, but an acquaintance (yes, honestly!) is in the position that one of her parents left a (substantial?) amount of money in a trust fund for the children/grandchildren. The surviving parent has use of (I presume) the interest, but the capital will go to the beneficiaries on the survivor's death.…

Cashing in bond but lost paperwork?
Hello. I hope the title makes sense! My husband's grandparents saved some money in bonds for him and he would like to cash it in (he's 23). However, he doesn't have any of the paperwork and his grandparents have lost it. We got in touch with NS&I who the bonds are with and they said to just write "bonds missing" on the…

Starting Sharesave when company is at a high
I'm considering signing up to my company's Sharesave scheme but am wondering if it matters that the share price is currently near the all-time highest levels reached in 2000 and 2007. I understand that I can get my money back if the shares are worth less than my option when the scheme matures in 2016, so all I have lost is…

Property Investment Companies (Assetz)
Ive been looking at buy to let investments and have come across a number of these companies advertising. They seem to have a flavour of time share, boiler room etc and seem too good to be true. Been especially looking at one called Assetz on advice of a colleague. Anyone got any experience good or bad of these and in…

Nuffield 6% Bond
Although there is no safety net ie the FSA this five year bond seems a good idea. Surely the risk of The Nuffield going into administration must be very remote? Am very tempted as, even paying tax on the income, the return is better than a cash isa and in five years time when it matures interest rates might be on the rise…

X-O Limit Orders
I set up an X-O account and assumed I could set up a few limit orders for the full value that I paid in, and once the first one that triggered had used up the money I could cancel the other ones. But once I'd set up the first, it said my available balance was £0, even though no order had been placed yet. So if I set up a…
