Cashing in bond but lost paperwork?

Hello.
I hope the title makes sense!
My husband's grandparents saved some money in bonds for him and he would like to cash it in (he's 23). However, he doesn't have any of the paperwork and his grandparents have lost it.
We got in touch with NS&I who the bonds are with and they said to just write "bonds missing" on the form, but my husband is convinced that if he does this then they won't give him the money.
Can anyone advise please?
Thank you.

Assuming you clearly explained the situation I suggest what your husband thinks is irrelevant. Do as they say and see what they say. They may write back asking for other information (proof of identity, relationship to the person who bought the bond etc). There is no point in second guessing the advice you were given by the NS&I.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
If you have contacted NS&I and thats what they advise you to do, then if I was you I would do what they ask to get the bonds cashed in.
They will prob ask you to prove who you are, your details and also those of your grandparents (more info than usual, which is the case when you have lost the paperwork).
It wont be the first time that that NS&I are dealing with sort of enquiry, and Ive never heard of anyone who has not had their money returned to them.
From experience NS&I are quite easy and professional to deal with, so you shouldn't have any problems.
Edit: BobQ beat me to it.Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0
